Deciding on getting one of these 2 games for Nintendo DS. Ideally want to be able to play as the Albion of course but also have a decent footy game simulation.

Any recommendations?

FIFA is for uncoordinated inbred gimps who value predictable games-on-rails gameplay and "oooh doesn't that look like Ronaldinho" flashy graphics and "official sponsors".

For the pure instinctive football simulation experience, its PES all the way, always has been.

Dave, just google 'evolution soccer ds 2008 review', and you'll get the answers you need - it's dire.

e.g..

Closing Comments

It really is quite a struggle to recommend Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on any level whatsoever. Pro Evolution 6 was already a fairly weak offering, and the latest installment brings so very little to the party. With FIFA already offering a fairly respectable portrayal of the sport on the DS, there’s no reason to even consider purchasing Pro Evolution Soccer 2008; it’s a redundant retread of already barren ground, failing as both an update or a standalone title. It’s the Titus Bramble of football games – largely inadequate, lacking any flair and ultimately raising the question just what is the point. 4.7/10

or...

Offering no discernible improvement over its lacklustre predecessor and paling in comparison to more accomplished DS football titles, PES 2008 is best relegated to bench-warming duty 4/10

Fifa 08 is the only choice on DS, ignore the other comments, they clearly haven't played the two games.

I've read some good reviews of PES but the main negative thing i've noticed is the lack of teams.

It's got the prem league and national teams but I'd rather be playing as BHA and it appears Fifa has the full English football league.

Otherwise I'd probably just find myself playing as England and boring the xxxx out of myself

So play one of the older ones. Its nigh-on impossible improving on PERFECTION after all. Older incarnations of PES still drip monkeyspunk all over the very latest FIFA efforts in spades. FIFA might look flash, and has the official licences for all the clubs and players, but thats still no substitute for the sheer playability of the PES series. It just FEELS better.

Nah, they're all duff on the DS. As far as I know, they've only released pro evo 6 and 2008, both of which are awful.

I've never played PES on the DS admittedly, but on every other format it is so much better. Who cares what teams you can play if the gameplay just isn't as good.

Well, the DS is a kiddies / womens platform. Get yourself a proper console and theres no contest.

I don't know about other consoles but on 360, PES is f***ing awful, the worst game I have on it. FIFA is good even though its incredibly frustrating at times.

PES had been superior to FIFA in the recent but now, FIFA is by far better.

tbh DS's are cack. A poor mans PSP

Don't go for any of this format arguing, but the DS does have some great games - Zelda was up there with my favourite games last year, and yeah I have a 360 / Wii etc..

Suppose it helps when every game can be downloaded though.
