Ings cost Stains £20m.

The “we’re not in the market for the Salah’s” argument is deliberately selective.

Colossal sums wasted in fees and wages on Jahanbakhsh, Andone and Locadia.

Wish every person I’d recruited had been a huge success and performed as I’d hoped, would have saved me a whole world of pain. Maybe balance the three duds with some of the successes ?

Welbeck is our Ings. We did alright, he’ll have a good second half of the season and probably play as many games and score as many goals as Ings.

Any craftsman needs the right tools to do the job.

A tactical wizard Potter may be, but even he can't make a silk purse out of a sow's Eredivisie.

At this moment I time I think GP is getting the best out of this squad…

How do I know what?

A championship striker is prohibitively expensive?
Because it's a fact of footballing life.

Or

Such a player is worth it?
Because it's a fact of footballing life that they aren't.

You point to a Championship striker who cost £15m+ and has scored 12 goals a season.

Exactly.

You don’t know.

No one does.

What is a fact of footballing life is that we aren’t scoring any goals. We haven’t a clue that whoever may sign would be successful - so does that mean we shouldn’t try?

I keep posting this. £67M losses. Maybe we should just go for it - another £10M or so of losses won’t hurt.

We’re turning into the exact same fan base we hated when we were in league one sat piss wet at the Withdean. We have premier league football, we are competing well and we are losing huge amounts of money and we are still not happy.

Sad times where we forget where we have come from

Bolleaux. The Withdean Five Thousand don't actually give very much of a shit which division we're in. We were there then, are here now and will be wherever forever. Unlike many of today's corporate lanyarders and today's boo-boys. Many of those will just evaporate away. Can't speak for anybody else, but I want Tony Bloom's EPL adventure to be a success for Tony Bloom, not for me. And for that adventure to not end in failure, he has to start investing in EPL-level strikers. That's the simple truth of the matter

They also paid £20m for Guido Carillo who played seven games before he was released on a free transfer.

Thats the nice thing about having some Chinese bloke using you as a toy - you can take those risks.

Problem is when the Chinese bloke gets tired of you and relegation to Championship could spell disaster.

This is not the case in Brighton. Fewer chance signings, but also someone who genuinely cares about the club and will help it up again if it falls down.

you'll probably get a ban from the hierarchy on here for blasphemy of bloom. He is proper granite for not ever getting a obvious need for a striker

Do you seriously think Potter is actively discouraging the club from investing in a striker?

He's obviously not going to tell the media at the end of every window that "we tracked three great lads; one of them has gone to Barcelona, one wanted £200K a week, and the third is under contract and the club want £90 million. We are clearly crap at recruitment but we will try again next window."

I really hope we sign someone, but it isn't my money, my recuitment team, my shout, etc. Yes, I understand the frustration but suggesting Potter and the club don't know we need a striker is false inference, to put it mildly

He missed one fairly easy chance, one very difficult chance (knee high, pacy, swerving ball) and the third was after the whistle had gone.

Whistle or no whistle, he missed it haha, the whistle is irrelevant. He missed it haha

I actually quite like the guy, I think he does an amazing job in many, many ways for the team and did so today btw, but, yea, he’s just not so good at scoring. Alongside someone that can score he’d be wonderful, all be it a bit of a luxury.

I actually think his mention/emphasis re the booing and putting Locadia on was a tactical statement by Potter. A cry for help haha, a message to Mr Bloom and the recruitment team.

I think they have a lot of bills to pay with that £100M - sadly in this day and age, everyone from players to police, to insurance companies and cleaners, all want paying. Granted, we get £100M every year we spend in the PL. Remind me onceagain, how much more than £100M do we spend each year just t stay there?

In high finance terms.I believe it is called a 'Net Loss', the dire consequences of which are ameliorated by someone chucking in a large amounnt of his own money. Forgive me if I'm not a financal whizz-kid, but that is pretty much how it works, at the 'Janet and John' level of high finance at least.

Quite. You’d need to be financially illiterate to think that TB gets a cheque for 100m every year that he can just deposit in his bank account.

A striker would be nice but perhaps to compliment this, we need to change the way that we are doing our shooting practice.

Surely our premier league standard players can do better than what we see week in week out?

A new striker isn't going to stop Moder missing decend chances, or trossard hitting the post, or Bissouma blazing over, Solly scuffing his shots.

If I were GP I’d have my antennae out for a move to a bigger and more ambitious club if TB doesn’t sort this out in January. Got to feel for the guy, he is much better than we are allowing him to be

I am frustrated as Brighton fan he must be very pissed off and he is no Albion fan. He may have reached his ceiling here, project or not.

Kind of what I mentioned ans think . . . . GP has taken us on in style if not up the notch TB and the rest of us want . . . Either we get the investment player wise or he will be off.

Imagine the posession stats GP-Manure vs BHA . . . .

I just posted the same sort of comment but if it was it was subliminal, and more of an 'OK, he's our player, let's give him 20 minutes and see if he's an impact sub' kinda thing.

So £20m on a player with a history of injuries, in particular hamstring. Bit like our attempts to keep Wellbeck fiit - a bit of luck required - oh, and by the way Maupay has scored more than Ings this season, despite the glaring misses.

Signing a striker to get those guaranteed goals is always a gamble/luck.

I’ve not mentioned Maupay once. I like him, glad he’s in the Albion squad.

Ings, well Smith/Gerrard were/are spoilt with a few forwards options. But as you know, I was talking about Stains acquisition of Ings.

Cleverly they took him on a year’s loan, only buying him when he had produced the goods.

Showing the inventiveness needed in a competitive market.

I refuse to believe footballers who earn upwards of £20 000 a week can't shoot properly or hit a target.

They're brainwashed. Pass it in! :lolol:

Oh yeah, and England should practice taking penalties. Genius.
