I have been looking at a small fezzie called Standon Calling (to supplement Glasto). Anyone else been to this?

DO NOT GO TO STANDON CALLING.

Went this year. Poorly organised, no atmosphere at all and poor stewarding.

They also sell day tickets which meant to atmosphere changed every day. Friday was beer boys, saturday was just weird and sunday was too many families.

I really really hated it.

Oh and the crowd was too young and too posh.

Another vote for Latitude;

1. Always an excellent line up.
2. The best setting for a festival by a mile. Beautiful scenery.
3. Not too big (yet). No ridiculous crowds like Glastonbury/Reading etc.
4. Plenty of superb comedy/alternative stuff going on.
5. Better food than at pretty much any of the other festivals. Some of it is actually quite healthy.

What he said.

Went to my first Latitude this year, and I have to admit it was definitely the best festival I've been to (the first I one I went to was in 1997).

Got in almost 40 bands and comics over the three days, most of whom were brilliant - I'll get a ticket for next year's as soon as they go on pre-sale.

In addition to this very little happens in the day. If you fancied a dance in the day time there was nowhere to go. Have you thought about checking Secret Garden Party?

SGP is on the radar. Some chums go every year and really rate it. Care to give a brief summary to supplement theirs?

It's very hard to explain SGP but it has the best atmosphere of any festival I've been too, the widest ranging line up of any festival I've been too, the most interesting happenings in the daytime aside from music and it's MAGICAL by night. I can't recommend it highly enough to be honest. The only thing that makes Bestival my favourite is the massive line up but for all round good FUN, SGP takes the piss.

Ooh, plus the crowd is clued up and there's no little tossers running about taking the mick. The fact that there is a dancefloor in the middle of the lake (this year it was a big airship) that they set fire to on saturday night tops it all off.

Keep your peepers open for HOP FARM.

It was a bit above excellent this year, and it is quite close to the Sussex/Kent border at Paddock Wood.

If the posts above haven't already put you off then let me add another word of warning about Standon Calling - if they keep to the same weekend as this year then it is very likely to clash with the first game at Falmer. Look elsewhere.

Have been tempted to go to the Hop Farm, as it's close to where I live but haven't heard that many great things about it. Long queues for the beer tent and hardly any toilets etc

Lounge on the Farm in kent, is a good'un. Plenty of good food, caberet and small time bands. Usually a bigish name will headline. not robbie or arcade fire or muse but a good band known by people outside of kent (where a lot of the unkown acts originate)

Think The King Blues, Example that kinda size.
