My man Tommy from the "Filmed deaths" category on Wiki! Never thought I'd see him in other circumstances.
Very very famous British comedian of years gone by. His death was live on national TV in front of millions of viewers I believe, but before my time, but frankly that's not why he's famous.

A much loved cult hero for Brits of a certain age, no surprise that references to him pop up now and again.

Got to love NSC, this Fez nonsense is going to run and run isn’t it?
Different presenter wasn’t it?

I was one of the millions who happened to be watching that live.

As I posted on here a while back, he lived for a while in the town I grew up in (and where my sister still lives). I often walk/run past his old house when I visit. His niece was tragically murdered in the town recently:-

Tommy Cooper lived in Motcombe Lane in Old Town in Eastbourne, and there is a tribute plaque to him on the property:-

It is about ten minutes walk from my sister's house; ran past it numerous times when I was visiting last Christmas.
(His niece Sabrina still lived in the town but was tragically murdered in December).

Plenty of people round here, have a story from back in the day. I never met him but as a kid I thought he was hilarious.

I see. Didn't even know he was British - always thought it looked like he died in some comedy skit of some American talkshow, so just assumed he was American.

Had no idea he was that famous either, but then again I watch people die a lot more than I watch comedians.

How’s it possible to agree contract length and salary before bid accepted

It’s all just nonsense isn’t it
It’s the way of football now. It’s very rare personal terms aren’t sorted out before a club officially bids for a player. Even if things aren’t totally agreed clubs will have a fair idea if a player wants to join and what his wage demands are before they put in a bid.

More than 1 in 5 of the UK population were watching the show as it went out in 1984, so it was a huge cultural moment. I doubt there are many Brits over 45 years old that aren't aware of him or how he died.

Both my wife and I remember it,(just checked and she does remember it)
We both thought it was part of his act, unfortunately not.
Another genius to add to list that left us to early.
