I could offer myself in a supervisory role;

Much as I hoped I was on the downstairs flooring.:censored:

HURRAH. You love it.
I'll do the donkey work then, if you'll oversee the operation to make sure I don't do anything totally BONE. :)

I am pleased to report that four new 6x6ft fence panels are now firmly LODGED and SCREWED along the south-east perimeter of my back garden. This will effectively keep my pikey deadbeat neighbours and their gruesome dogs out of sight and mind. I am however knackered, as is my excellent dad who conducted the operation and told me what to do and screw.

And I hurt my ARM dumping the old fence, which I had to break up in its entirety to get it in the car and take to the dump. THREE TRIPS. I think I may have SPRAINED something.

God I feckin HATE DIY.

But you saved money on labour and learnt a new diy skill, when your pikey neighbours need a new fence you can volunteer and charge a labour fee to suit you.

f***.
Them.

The amount of SHIT I had to clear out from behind that old fence...various CRAP they'd dropped down behind it over the years - amongst which was a load of beer cans, jumpers, crisp bags, dog bones ropes and the deconstructed rusty poles from an old SWING...I'm more likely to lay them a nice steaming TURD to pick up via the small gap behind my shed. Except I won't, because I behave like a decent human being.

I am biting my lip, but I'd probably just end up with a keyed car on the driveway if I actually thanked them for all their shit I ended up dumping for them.

As Alan Partridge would say. "Some people". :nono:

Fair play to do for doing it yourself.I hate diy with a passion.
Lets see if it can withstand a decent gale force wind though.Or foxes start to dig under it.

Well, it was good old DAD who was driving the operation. I was just humping and screwing as directed. Definitely a two-man job though.

Dads are DIY experts, highly skilled in the black arts of anything involving some tools and some logical thinking.

Also, when it comes to DIY, dads exhibit SUPERHUMAN strength.

Last year, I had to 're-point my garage' (FFS) and after about 2mins was totally knackered with my hammer & chisel and was on the brink of physical collapse. My old man on the other hand chipped away for hours. I felt really guilty slacking off around the corner but my arms were shot to pieces.

Its the same whenever anything needs tightening. I'll do it, run out of steam and be unable to turn it any further. My dad will ask if i'm done. I'll say "yeah, thats as tight as it will go" and then he'll 'just check' and proceed to give it a couple of more turns.

Dad's & DIY:

Its a dying art, Stoichkov.
In 50 years time, we'll all be living in decrepit hovels falling to bits around our ears.

Dads know EVERYTHING about DIY.

I think they get given a manual from someone when they become dads and it has everything inside it!

Same with mums and roast dinners, everyone knows that mums make the best roasties!

The difference is that there was no Grand Theft Auto/all weekend football on Sky/internet porn around during your dad's formative years, therefore he made himself USEFUL and learned how to do stuff instead of sitting on the sofa all weekend.

Yup.
You are 100% correct Lush. My dad barely knows which way round to hold a mouse, let alone set up a wireless internet connection. But give him a hammer, a screwdriver and a few planks of 2x4, and he'll build you a fully functioning garage with electric door, hot-tub and fold-down barbecue.

Fair point although my dad (and his generation) actually seem to understand how the technology of the their day (and in many cases the present day) actually works. This goes from understanding whats actually keeping your fence up, to how car engines work, right through to 'micro computers'

I just assume its some sort of techo-magic. I don't know how it works - it just does

I got in a discussion yesterday with my dad about TV's and flippently mentioned 1080p and was TREATED to a 20min lecture about screen resolution. By the end of it, I thought, its all very well knowing the in's & out's of digital imaging resolution but if you fail to point out how good Call of Duty will look on a f***ing massive LCD telly, you're missing the point of it

I have a series of 6 foot wooden fence panels in my back garden. The only problem is, half them are now lying in BITS all over my lawn, and the stuff thats left standing is lurching at some CRAZY angles, and probably won't survive much more of this completely uncalled-for BATTERING we are getting from the weather.

Being as I'm not completely sure which way round to hold a hammer, I am reluctant to attempt reparing this myself. Can anyone recommend a good FENCING firm to bung up three or four replacement fence panels ? I know if I do it, it'll just be in BITS again at the first light breeze. I don't want to pay very much either.

Anyone ?

I know that South London Seagull will be able to get your fence cleaned for you should you require.
