As long as he doesn't think it fine to wait two weeks into the season to pick up what's left and then stuff the teams with loanees, I'm not sure he will have to spend Massive.

Getting a few first choice players would be nice, not the dregs after everyone else has had their pick, which is what happened this season.

I think last night exposed the thinness of the squad. The recent home performances showed that we are capable of putting in a good performance but ultimately we are far more limited than we have been in recent seasons.

Agree re Greer, not on his game at all, Dunk was again very poor. I think both are knackered after a very hard season.

The Baldock injury has hurt us a lot more than we would like to admit, poor old Cog was left high and dry last night.

Hughton's worst day at the office, but at least it should balst any notion of complacency away.

We have a lot of work to do in the summer.

Dunk was being exposed by having to cover for an ageing Gordon Greer who not only loses his position, but now no longer seems capable of winning a header against a smurf.

I saw it the other way round... and Dunk was absolutely rinsed for their second goal.

That said, neither covered themselves in glory!

Yes it was.
Federici had to be warmed up as he had been redundant in the first half. Good job as he had two easy, but on-target, shots to save in the second half, apart from the penalty.
The game and football were unrelated, assuming that 'football' is only when the ball is actually in play. We spent the second half watching various ways that their defence could find to delay the taking of numerous silly freekicks that we were giving away. This included spiriting the ball away down the other end when the game was stopped for an injury and then picking it up and playing 'chase me' when our players tried to retrieve it.

A number saying how poor Halford was but as I said when we signed him he is awful playing right back. He is acceptable as a CB but not in any other position. Playing against us a number of times has shown this.

The team which started haven't played as a team before and it looked like they were the 11 kids in the playground that nobody picked so had to play together. For the first couple of minutes it wasn't actually that bad we had a lot of space and a better bounce would have seen Kaz score from a long throw. But that was really the highlight of the game other than a very good penalty from OGrady.

I was astounded Hughton didn't bring on a sub until 75 minutes, people moaned about the lack of passion Sami showed, all Hughton did was stand in the box, surely he saw it wasn't working after 10 minutes and try and change things.

Ince was crap except for a couple of time when we won the ball back, but had he not given it away in the first place he wouldn't have had too. Our team passing stats for the game must show we made more passes to those in blue and white than black and red.

Reading were a very poor team and their time wasting at the end was embarrassing, the worst I think I have ever seen on a football pitch and the ref ignored 95% of it, 6 minutes injury time was given and the ball was in play for a maximum of 90 seconds. Even when the ref gave a yellow card for delaying a free kick he ignored the player who stood juggling the ball for a further 15 seconds.

Complete and utter waste of time and energy for every supporter who went.

The only thing I have come away being thankful for is I am not a Reading fan. Everything about the Majeski experience is wrong. The only good thing about the ground is you can be back on the motorway within 5 minutes of leaving the ground.

I disagree....Its a very good stadium and a great view all round..The catering and transport links are fast and it's as good as it gets to be fair and not to mention you can have a ciggy at half time.

They'll want to squeeze the 1901 renewals til the pips squeak next summer, so need to invest heavily in the team at least for next season.

Firstly, I agree with all the sentiments so far expressed! As poor a performance as I have seen, including Birmingham away this season! CH must have had a plan, but it failed so spectacularly, I can only think he couldn't quite believe that the players would let him down like that. Players potentially playing for an opportunity to stay, stake a claim etc etc just couldn't do what was asked of them. Reading were poor but were very organised which meant the idea of playing off COG just didn't get going. Steve Clarke had them very very compact meaning that there was no space to play to feet and the players couldn't work it out, and played passes in a panic .. Too long or rushed that meant we couldn't keep it and get up in support. And the stats said we had 60% possession! Shows how poor it was from us. It did change at the start of the second half as we played it quicker that got their midfield turning. Conceding the second goal was a killer, but we just didn't respond and the players got more and more frustrated. I have never seen such time wasting go unpunished, and our frustration led to stupid fouls and got the ref against us on the 50/50 decisions. POG whatever his name is was a disgrace with his antics and it all became a thoroughly horrible experience. Hate the drums, the trumpets, the goal music, sweet Caroline .. Otherwise great!

Have to agree with Greer comments too. I cannot believe just how poor in the air he is, and has been. Dunk was struggling too, and needed a calm cool head next to him.. That is not Greer at the moment.

Overall it was a good night out ruined by 90 minutes of football.

I'm one of the apparant few who like the MadJetSki stadium.

Decent view ( hard seat, though ), Good pie ( sacrilege as not Piglets ), Good ale ( sacrilege as not Harveys ), efficient and easy park and ride, easy exit from car park onto road home.

Amusing ( to me ) and loud chant response from home fans :

Disagree. It was yet another of those cr@p away games, making it five in a row with no heart, ambition or clue.
We have not scored an away goal from open play in the League THIS YEAR.


We seem to have a manager and a bunch of players who have given up away from home. CH sets up every away game hoping for a 0-0. His only ambition is to pick up enough home points to survive.
Reading were a side devoid of confidence. They haven't been able to buy a home point in recent weeks. They had just had a tough cup match on a heavy pitch. We had not played for a week. They were forced to make 5 changes and had players out of position ( rookie centre half / midfielder at right back etc ) They are in a run of 4 games in 9 days. Just like most of our recent away opponents, they were there for the taking. Blackpool, Cardiff and Bolton should all have been put to the sword as well. Result...1 point.
Last night's performance was pitiful. It was embarrassing. It was an insult to the good BHA turnout. Speaking to Reading fans after the game, they were surprised how poor we were. They felt they didn't even have to work very hard to win. ( Reading were so bad, they missed a series of sitters before we felt sorry for them and said...' here you are..go and score ' )
Recent home wins can't cover up last night's ghastly ineptitude. Serious questions should be asked about CH's tactics away from home. They are unacceptable and unpalatable.
Thats me finished with away games for this season. Nothing is going to change. Aimless manager, passionless players. absolute dross, park football. They should hang their heads in shame. Fans paid good money to watch players with drooping shoulders and nonchalence. Appalling body language.
BHA fans started the evening in good spirits. They finished it in a mixture of anger, bewilderment and apathy ( if the players and manager can't be bothered...why should we )

Game was pants. Stadium observations: my last time at the Madejski was when we got tanked by 4 or 5 goals in the year Reading went up to Prem. At the the time thought the Stadium was quite impressive but that was pre-Amex - feels a bit limp by comparison now.

Still associate Reading away with games at grotty Elm Park. My first ever BHA away match. Mid week evening in mid seventies. We won 3-2; think Ward and Sully on score sheet. We stood in Reading terrace and my mate's dad tried to pick a fight when They scored. Ooooh.. jumpers for goalposts.

I feel sorry for those who have spent their time & money travelling to games when it seems the team of players, who train and get well paid to do this for a living, appear clueless.

I've seen many a poor Albion side in my time but it's unforgivable and disrespectful to not compete. Blackpool, bolton, Cardiff & Reading, all winnable games but where's the ambition?
