90s were amazing for comedy, where as now we've got.... Err... Countless shyte panel shows with the same selection of bang average stand up comedians, and...
Comedy is dead, bar the odd anomoly that comes along once in a while like Peep Show

Those panel shows aren’t my cup of tea, the format’s been done to death for 25 years.

Is Iannucci up to anything?

Perhaps Only Fools and Horses will be the only comedy left standing...

Because it doesn't need cutting, it is quite clear that Cleese as the script writer is putting words into the mouth of a rather dim character in this scene in order to make his views seem ridiculous and offensive. It is VERY funny by the way - I must have been keen on her because I took her to see India

Agreed. FT is truly brilliant comedy. Watched it all with the nipper a few years ago. Still laugh out loud funny to a ten year old in 2017 as it was to a ten year old me when I first watched it in the 80s.

The one with the obnoxious, hard of hearing woman is still the best. "No, he's from Swanage...".

Yes to equality and understanding. No to racism and censorship.

As mentioned on another thread, it's pointless anyway as EVERYTHING is available to watch via the internet. It's just posturing, panicking and trying to be seen to do "what's right".

Keeps someone in a job I suppose.

In particular with regard to comedy, those who want to remove so much really ought to be known as the new Puritans.

The old Puritans, back in the 1610s to 50s were keen to ban the theatre and any entertainment and very much frowned on the idea of anyone enjoying anything that wasn't pre-approved by them. I doubt that any comedy programmes will survive the cull of their more enthusiastic modern followers.

On the plus side, after fifteen years or so of Puritan domination, the country got rid of them back in the 1600s and I hope that most societies can also get rid of the new Puritans and do so by laughing at them.

Who is actually asking for this stuff to be banned though?

Genuine question.

Are there legions of overly PC dicks shouting, writing emails etc to get Fawlty Towers removed from iPlayer?

Or is it just a few execs, running around like SpongeBob and Patrick, desperate to be seen to be doing the right thing?

The amount of snowflakes getting offended that an episode has been taken off of TV. The world is changing, get used to it.

I knew exactly which episode this would be and why when I read the thread title. If you think it’s still ok to air an episode where one of the white characters uses two of the most offensive racist slurs that exist for referring to people of African descent you need to give your head a wobble.

I love this so much, always tears from laughing so much. Whitehouse . My family just don’t get why I like it!

Whitehouse is a genius. The Fast Show remains my favourite TV programme

Simon Day was on Talksport earlier today.....essentially as Billy Bleach. Someone, somewhere will no doubt have been offended

So what’s next for the chop? I imagine the Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse “is he a quare”? sketches are on borrowed time.
