The Odd Angry Shot is a good take on the Vietnam War.
The Eagle Has Landed, just because Michael Cane is in it.

OH! What a Lovely War!

Actually an anti-war film. One of the best films ever made in my opinion, and filmed on the West pier. If you can watch the closing scenes filmed on the downs without a lump in your throat you must be made of stone.

But it's never on the tellybox!
Just been on...the film ended at the tip where they put up the crosses. I went there to watch the filming.

Don't think anyones mentioned the Dirty Dozen!

Cross of Iron is another good one.

Top list from me.....All Quiet on the Western Front.
Cruel Sea.
Cockleshell Heroes.
Das' Boot
Paths of Glory.
Blue Max
Above Us The Waves.
Lawrence of Arabia.
Enemy At The Gates
The Sand Pebbles.
Empire of the Sun
Battle of the River Plate.
The Pianist.

Many other good films....as Grandad in Only Fools.. would say 'During the War'.........

Shit! I missed it! What channel was it on? It wouldn't normally help as I can't get iplayer or any of the other repeats here but I'm going to be in UK on Tuesday for 6 day so I can download/watch if I know what channel you saw it on.

Too many to mention, but tops would be:
Saving Private Ryan,
Dam Busters,
Battle of the Bulge.

Does Ice Cold in Alex count, thats a pretty good film.

The Hurt Locker count?
Enemy at the gates was wank.
Das Boot too good.

Worst "war film" is Passchendale.

Also strangely liked the Red Baron . . not sure why just find it so watchable.

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of war movies, but I like

Lawrence Of Arabia
The Thin Red Line
Das Boot (one of my favourie films of any genre)
La Grande Illusion (Like a french version of stalag 17, but made first)

Hot Shots?
Bedknobs and Broomsticks?
Top Secret?

I have recorded oh what a lovely war, because it's a musical, but haven't watched it yet
