I agree with what you say about the lyrics, they're definitely a bit weird.

Very good version, I'm slowly getting into Springsteen. The lyrics are actually quite obvious, if not too pleasant.

The Police and Every Step You Take come to mind...

I may have posted this before but I am struck by the fact that the Stones came out with this song whilst recording Exile On Main St in the South of France studio in Nelcotte. Gram Parsons spent a lot of time with them down there and this is very un Stones like, no credits from Jagger/Richards though

You have to let the word "Daddy" have the broader meaning that it has, particularly in the US, otherwise it's very creepy.
