Should have been preserved alongside a new fotbridge . . .as brutal/ugly as it was, it was an antique. And fairly new tech at the time it was built!

Beautiful bridge , note the French never mention the architect was BRITISH :LOL:
Apart from presumably sketching some nice drawings for the initial optioneering, the architect's role in designing that will have been pretty minimal.

Which is largely the case for all bridges. There's the occasional little feature bridge where they get to whip their pencil out and write some nonsense about how "the shape of the bascule echoes the fish hooks that were once so important to the fishing industry in the town etc. etc." but generally the engineers do all the work. Which is why most bridges tend to be prosaic concrete or steel things.

Anyway, I can't begin to choose just one so I'll post this photo and leave it.
