Farage stays as UKIP leader after resignation rejected

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Yes...me.
I want us to have the testicles to stand up to the rest of Europe. How we allow Germany to bully the rest of us God only knows. History shows that give them an inch and they will take a thousand kilometres. Europe revolves around them and they structure it to benefit the most. They have the most powerful voice and we pay lip-service to them. It is costing us billions to be a part of this bureaucratic stranglehold.
We need stronger ties with the USA and Far East and less emphasis on the EU being the be-all and end-all of everything.

One of the reasons that China is so keen to trade with us,is because we are in Europe.

China is an exporter, they will trade with us come what may.

They're also a huge importer. Who's to say they will still shop in the UK when in the EU zone it's easier to shop with myriad nations?

And you have the cheek to accuse the Tories of scaremongering ? China has free trade agreements with lots of countries , are you trying to tell me they would refuse to sign one with us ?

No. What I'm saying is, why would they buy from the UK, when they can go to the EU and have much larger range of things to buy from over 20 countries. For example, if you go to London shopping, why go to ten different shops when you can go to Selfridges?

Your post is nonsense , in the first sentence your position is one that China would prefer to have a much larger range of countries to trade with, and in your second one you use an analogy to question why someone would shop around from the previously mentioned much larger range, make your mind up, I know what your trying to say but it's nonsense, China has the option to trade with other EU countries whether we are a member or not, ultimately the decision to trade with us comes down to the goods we have on offer, and the trade agreement we would negotiate.

What I meant was China would surely prefer 1) a much much wider range of goods to choose to import and 2) prefer a easy single place to buy from. Maybe Amazon would have been a better analogy?

I agree it ultimately comes down to the goods on offer and the agreement you can negotiate but surely the EU can provide a better range and due to economies of scale a better agreement?

The idea that Britain will return to a green and pleasant land isolated form the rest of the world while still having influence over it is bonkers. The world has moved on. In actual fact Britain never really was an isolated land, independent of the wider world as we used to run 2/3 of the rest of the world and had huge trade links over the globe.
Unless you want to go really far back and await the Vikings again?
This is not a time to be isolated.

Do you not think smaller shops struggle due to the might of bigger shops? Just pop down to your local high street and look at all the local indie shops.

if you go down this line of thought, there's no need for China to import any goods, since it has the manufacturing capacity to make pretty much anything. in fact, this applies to about any industrialised nation. you go "shopping" abroad for brand, specification, quality, price etc. and specialisms that might not be available locally.

pretty much all those factors apply to any goods or services China might buy or sell with the UK, whether in or out of the EU (EU tariffs might well be an obstacle). I think you and Thunder Bird has confused this with the argument that foreign investment comes here because we are in the EU.

Fat chance of the UK being isolated. Seriously, don't we have 43,000 British born unemployed workers who could fill positions. 17.4% increase in EU nationals this year taking British jobs.

I was responding to a specific post by alfredmizen. I've not confused this with investment. And I think my point is valid.

Interesting news in The Times about the bun fight between Carswell and Farage over the cash they have been awarded. Nige does not come out looking good.
