Not all blu-ray films are region locked but obviously you would have to check with your retailer before puchase.

I bought Planet Earth (BBC) in blu ray from Amazon USA and it is region free.

I've just imported one from Hong Kong, at the current US$ exchange rate it saved me over £100 on the cost of them in the UK shops, means I can import US and Asian Blu-Ray and save as they are normally a fair bit cheaper than here. Customs only stuck £17 on it too, shame that Parcel Force added another £13 handling charge. Bloody rip off merchants.

What's the situation with warranty though?

Yeah unfortunatly the warrenty would mean sending it back there unless I could blag something with Sony over here, I'd try telling them I lived over there and shipped it over here with the rest of my belongings and see what they say. Of course fingers crossed nothing will go wrong with it.
