I know smoking is bad for me but I am almost pushed the other way by these Health Nazi's in that it make me want to smoke MORE. I will give up when I want to not when the government tells me to. I just find the sheer hypocracy of the whole thing so annoying, smokers and smoking is the new evil in the UK and are the causes of all the bad things that happen but will the government ban cigarettes and make them illegal which you would think they would knowing the harm they state they do, NO, because they get £ 7 000 000 000 a year in taxes.

Also what will this ban mean, it will mean smokers will smoke MORE in their own homes, which means MORE passive smoking and children being subjected to much more smoke than they would have done if their parents had been allowed to go to the pub and have a drink and fag away from the home.

A work colleague was very angry that smokers would still be allowed to sit out in the open outside of pubs as he said some smoke may waft in through the window ruining his day and presumably his health.

This is the start of the Health Nazi's campaign and if I were a non smoker I would have been against the ban , they will move onto alcohol and then fast food and then fast cars , in 5 years time you will not be allowed to drink more than 2 pints in a pub as they will not serve you anymore as it would put you over your daily recommended units, believe me it will happen, so all the non smokers feeling very smug now beware they will move onto something you enjoy before too long mark my words.

Er, how many places of work allow people to smoke on the premises at the moment then?

Only I've never worked anywhere but a pub where you were allowed to smoke
on site

smoking rooms in office blocks etc have to be removed

also randomly, when exactly does the ban kick in, if a club is open until 3am (as an example) could the owners be fined if smoking is taking place after midnight as it technically is July 1st???

slighty off topic again. If you have a builder or plumber etcround to your home to do some work, does this mean that you will jot be allowed to smoke in your own home whilst they are working ???

Bit of a long winded excuse just to carry on smoking, yes I am a smug bastard, and why not:bigwave:

The real bitch is that I was desperate to do Fabric for one final session with class A's, B's and C's before the class C's are off the menu for good.

You'll often get away with smoking in clubs post ban - at least you do here.

Anyway, as goes the class Cs - brownies ;)

Stupid rule that is, We've got a purpose built smoking room with an extractor fan and large windows to open an even the most ardent anti smokers cant see the sense in it having to go.

Think i'll give town a miss then

Fast cars is already being discussed at an EU level, no car to be produced capable of exceeding 130% of the highest general speed limit, which would be about 100mph. And strangling emission limits also controlling speed.

Alcohol, which is a highly injurious and very antisocial drug, must follow eventually and food is becoming ever more regulated - currently it's advertising restrictions (the re-run of the "go to work on an egg" advert allegedly stopped because it doesn't depict a balanced meal) but that's where the smoking ban started.

My car meets Euro IV Diesel emission limits without the particulate filter common on most diesels and yet its significantly faster than the Euro III petrol version of the same car - modern engine tech, particulary diesel, is running faster ahead than the emissions rules.

The fastest speed limits in the EU are unset. 130% of infinity is still infinity. The UKs speed limits are lower than nearly all of Europe - our motorway limit is about 75mph, most of Europe is about 80mph.

Have a mate who owns his own buisness but works from home does this mean he won't be able to smoke in his own house as it is a place of work. Just how this law is going to be implemented is beyond me, does this mean the police are going to come out every time someone lights up in a pub, club etc can't see this, i know you have 3 months before they start fineing people, i think it's an 80 pound fine if caught whereas landlords, owners etc face over 2000 pound fine. Surley plod aren't going to cope with all the grasses ringing up every night through the night time they get to the pub all fags are out, landlords are not going to own up to anyone smoking with that fine on their heads.???

I do know that a massive post-smoking ban clean-up is planned at a pub I happen to frequent, frequently! This is the same pub where an imaginative staff smoking area has just been created:

Over here, its not the cops who implement it, its OTC (http://www.otc.ie), they send out inspectors - and because there's money to be made, they send out LOTS of them - similar to the licence inspectors.

And they get large amounts of reports in because there's lots, and lots of people who hate smoking. I've seen OTC inspectors in train stations, etc.

But, as the burden of the costs is on the premises owner, do you really think they'll LET people smoke there? There won't be anything for them to "admit", as they'll stop you.
