Harty.

I have seen a lot of negative comments over the last few weeks regarding Jake Robinson and the lack of a contract.

I believe that you are trying to get DK on your phone-in fairly soon.

If you do, please would you ask him the position regarding a full contract with Jake. He has (from what I've seen of him), the potential to be a very good player. I realise that money is tight, but sometimes we need to be planning a bit further forward than just this year (and Falmer). If he fulfills his potential, he will be a real asset to this club. We should be doing everything we can to secure and nurture him.

Anyone else want to agree?:D

Just to kill all of the speculation and rumours, once and for all, this is the reply I received from Dick’s p.a. when I e-mailed the club regarding the position of Jake and a contract.

"Jake Robinson is currently on a three year scholarship with this club and cannot therefore go anywhere else until that period has transpired.
This Club is obviously aware of Jake's potential and that of many other of our youth players and our chairman is monitoring this situation closely for the future.
Thank you for your concern."

Hopefully, this will put to bed all of the scaremongering and rumours of Jake and other members of the youth team going elsewhere

I doubt it - I've been saying similar for weeks.

Trouble is, one or two people have a tendency to take an "unhealthy" obsession too far, which leads to unnecessary concern among other supporters.

Jake is secure at the Albion. He has a three year contract which will I'm sure, at the appropriate time, be converted to a full professional deal.

Well said. It doesn't hurt to have it confirmed. Thanks.

It is unlikely that the Club would give someone of youth team age a three year professional contract, so JR is more securely an Albion player with a Scholarship which is the same in nearly all respects as a contract. JR would also lose additional Scholarship support (ie schooling) so would have nothing to fall back on if he suffered an injury (god forbid). There are many excellent youth team players (present and past) who are now breaking through into the reserves and first team. DK and the youth team coaches have done an excellent job in bringing them on. They know what they are doing. We should all be patient and resist being panicked by one persons crusade.

Good to know that this scholarship apparently ties Robinson to the Albion. A couple of further questions. Is it normal for a youth player on the fringes of the 1st team to be on a scholarship (which presumably means minimal money) and can that player then quit the scholarship if offered a professional contract by another team. It would be ethically wrong but does it contravene any league regulations.

In short could Robinson up and leave tomorrow, if he chose to?

My earlier post contained this statement from the club

"Jake Robinson is currently on a three year scholarship with this club and cannot therefore go anywhere else until that period has transpired".

This ties him to the club until the 3 years are up.
