Hey Bozza was your shepherds pie nice the other night. Did you do as your daughter said and put the baked beans in.

I am pleased to report back that I went with Madison's (and the NSC chatroom's) suggestion of adding baked beans and it worked a treat.

I added some grated cheese to half of it, as Mads can be a bit funny about cheese, thereby permitting me the pleasure of gooey melted cheese, whilst enabling Mads to be cheese-free.

As is the case with most foods, the pie also tasted far better the following day (ie yesterday) when I had the leftovers.

Shepards Pie with beans is definitely the way forward. If my late grandmother ever taught me anything, it was this.

What a legacy to leave.

I'm afraid this is complete nonsense. Baked beans have no place in a Shepherds Pie. The cheese option is however, a perfectly reasonable accompanyment.

As I said I detest baked beans but I wonder would it work just as well with a tin of spaghetti or spaghetti hoops.

No, no it won't.

IMO it really depends upon the meat, or meat substitute for veggie freaks like Bozza, you are using. If you're using Lamb, which is right for a shepherds pie, then beans in it are wrong. If using beef, quorn or anything else, then beans work a treat.

Erm...

Surely a "shepherds pie" with beef is "cottage pie"? Shepherds pie, by definition, containing Lamb.
