Yea, the club are knwon for getting their replacements in fast.

Ulloa
Buckley
Bridcutt
Barnes

I should imagine it's virtually impossible to get a replacement first? Firstly because the negotiations with the selling club will be just as difficult as those with the buying club. Secondly you can't really make an offer for a player on the condition that one of yours is being sold. Say we go to Oldham, for the sake of argument "Will you accept £2m for your up and coming centre back (by the way we're not sure if we want him or not?)"

As much as I thought Burke was the wrong side of bloody useless, I do think that's a little harsh. Ulloa was always going to be difficult to keep hold of and the price we got was too good to turn down. Buckley and Bridcutt wanted to go and join Gus at Sunderland, the latter getting all fizzy-knickered when it looked like Brighton might dig their heels in. We got good money for them too and in Buckley's case he's also a bit of a sicknote. Barnes was the only one I'd say was a mistake in letting go for the sake of £5k a week but I say that in hindsight. It's never a science with these things.

Nothing to argue with there actually, I badly phrased my post. What I really meant was that it was Burke that failed to adequately replace them.

I read it as fast not first.

Ive no idea if Dunk is going anywhere but if youre basing that assumption on last night then im perplexed.
Bloom gave the same straight bat answer he always gives when asked about player sales and he looked as uncomfortable for this question as he did for the others.

Just going off other peoples' reactions and they appeared to be universal in reading the response. Even Naylor has interpreted it pretty negatively.
I'm hoping it's wrong and he stays although I think we have some reasonable potential coming through.
Hopefully if it does happen it will be to Toon. Selling to Fulham would be massively de motivating IMO

Fair enough. Burke is therefore guilty as charged although once again I say that in hindsight. In Baldock and COG we respectively bought the league one leading goalscorer and the championship player who scored loads of goals in a rubbish relegated team so on paper both blokes were the kind of players we should have been scouting and looking out for.

Even Naylor has interpreted it pretty negatively.

Yep the sub has gone to town with the headline - http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/13580356.Bloom_issues_no_guarantees_over_Dunk_staying_at_Albion/
but the article is a straight reporting of what Bloom said last night and the latest re: interest. Not exactly a "negative reaction".

The full quote of Bloom's reaction to the question btw was
"It's not unusual for there to be interest in any club's best players and as we all know Lewis was superb last season.
"We want Lewis to stay for a long time, but it would be ridiculous for me to say that a player is never for sale.
There's always a price for any player."

Bloom was also asked if he would sell the club and he replied that it is possible that one day it could happen. There's absolutely no guarantees on the ownership situation either.

Of course there are no guarantees. There cannot possibly be.

A new phrase to be added to my vocabulary. :)

Thanks for that. It's the fullest quote I've seen and considerably less depressing than initial reactions :)

This isn't new. He's given similar answers before and said much the same as he says when asked this in other forums. His usual response is

Of course there's a vocal minority on here who think that TB is in this to make money not lose it so this won't satisfy them but he certainly didn't say anything last night that he hasn't said before.

I know there are no direct quotes in this piece, but I believe it very much reflects (reflected?) the club's view:

...because if Fulham (or any other Championship club) do come up with an offer that matches our valuation, and we can replace him, Dunk will be off and some backtracking will have to be done.

Yep, his answers are standard and expected, and suddenly all the body language experts come out to interpret the "real" meaning behind it :lolol:
