Did you pick Brighton because you thought we might have the best club fan relationship in the league?

Would you please clarify your definitions of domestic and international fans? I am an ex-Brighton resident and ex-season ticket holder who now lives outside the UK and no longer attends matches. Am I domestic or international?

Hi there - many thanks for your question. I would have defined a 'domestic fan' as a fan residing in the UK. And an 'international fan' as someone residing outside of the UK. I can understand your situation though - not to worry! I appreciate your time in completing the survey, nonetheless.

Good Morning All,

My name is David Pitcairn and I am an undergraduate student at Loughborough University studying BSc Sport Management. Currently in my final year of study, I am undertaking a dissertation research project titled, 'Supporter Relations & Opinions of Football Club Owners' which will look to evaluate fan perceptions of their club owners and club management structures.

I am using Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club as one of two case studies. Thus, I am asking for some support from Brighton fans who may be interested in participating. Please note it is an online qualitative questionnaire that should only take you 10 minutes to complete. It is also strictly anonymous as no identifiable data will be collected.

I have already contacted a number of Brighton & Hove Albion Supporter Club Members who have expressed an interest and taken-part. Additionally, please feel free to share this with other potential interested participants. If you are willing to contribute to academic research and look to potentially enhance the relations between your club and its fanbase, I would encourage you to participate - 18 years & older!

Good Morning All,

I hope you are all well - I know it has been a little while since I last spoke in the chat... but there is a good reason for that!

I have recently graduated from Loughborough University (BSc Sport Management)! - I also completed my dissertation, obtaining a first class grade of 78%! This is a phenomenal achievement and I wanted to come back and extend my gratitude to everyone who took an interest in my project. If you participated yourself or even shared with friends and family, I wanted to say thank you. I do not take your time, efforts and interest for granted. I am very grateful for this. This thesis was a lot of work, but having such gracious participants like yourselves helped tremendously.

In addition to this, as a result of receiving such a high-mark, I am in preliminary conversations with my supervisor over the possibility of this thesis being submitted into a sports academic scholarly journal! This would create a level of academic credibility for this project alongside advancing current knowledge on fan engagement and fan relations with their clubs. Upon starting this project, I was not able to find a great deal of academic research on BHAFC and in particular on fan opinions and perspectives. Though, a few books stood out ; Build a Bonfire, We Want Falmer). Because of this, I identified that a gap in existing research of BHAFC which would look at identifying current and contemporary fan perspectives of their club operations and ownership. This is what I focused my BHAFC research and results on. If and when this progresses, I will be sure to keep you all updated. It would be great to share my results with you as I know you would be intrigued to read them.

I truly believe this piece of research will be a great addition to the existing academia on BHAFC, and present a foundation for subsequent projects concerning BHAFC fan relations, community engagement and how to enhance the relationship between fans and club ownership. I would love the opportunity to leverage this project and present my thoughts and findings to BHAFC / fan relation advisors at the club.

Lastly, thank you again. I am extremely appreciative of your time and efforts. I have first hand experienced the wonderful community-oriented approach which BHAFC fans demonstrate.
