I do think this is a positive step though. Some transparent/feedback consultation on ideas.

As long as the club don't only select 'bots' like Chailey, as you put it the other day!

Club look like they're going to try and ensure the shortlist is diverse, and represents all areas of the club which is quite right. .
So whether another middle aged old bloke who spends too much time on NSC is required is perhaps debatable.
Anyway its for fans to vote on who they want.

I fear that Peter from Eastbourne wont get the 1-2-1 time with GP that he desires.

I think this has the potential to be either a really good thing or a total farce, largely dependent on the competency and motivation of those who stand and are elected.

There are a few regular NSC posters who could do an excellent job of being the token white, middle aged man* on the Advisory Board, and a few who would, imo, be an unmitigated disaster.

I would say that the success or otherwise of the idea is thus down to trying to get good candidates to stand and then voting for them. Much like in any area of elected representation, you get the quality of outcome you vote for…

* tongue firmly in cheek, though, like all jests, there may actually be some truth.

The problem for me would be in identifying who are the "good candidates" to vote for. Will there be a proper hustings with candidates seeking election publishing their bona fides and manifestos? I'm not really sure how this will work to deliver the representatives we need. But I can't think of a better way.

I really hope this isn't just a sop and that the FAB will be taken seriously by the club. As we know, we haven't yet had Barber say "you know what fans, you have a point. Let me reconsider" have we?

Sadly, as is usual with these things, anybody who wants to be on the Fan Advisory Board is probably the last person who should be on a Fan Advisory Board.
True but at least they can put forward the case that the albion should buy a train.

It’s worse than that……Barber will use the FAB as validation of the next pernickety rule

‘Our latest move to ban any standing at all in the North Stand during matches had the full support of the FAB, which - given those on the FAB were voted in by our season ticket holders and hence most loyal supporters - is a good representation of the wishes of the entire fanbase’.

Yes I fear this is right. Have seen this type of group used before. The club do the big sell on an idea to a limited number of individuals who gradually over a period of time cease to be objective and therefore this ceases to become a proper brake for the club. I am sure that it will work as a good forum to feedback fan view which in itself is no bad thing but doubt it will have any teeth in terms of representing fans for ideas that the club simply don't want to do, like safe standing/ticket sharing etc.

It will be important that whoever goes forward gives fans opinions not just own. Certainly good if it is somebody that is active on NSC as they can gauge feelings on most issues.
I would have proposed Bozo until he agreed with Bloom that sharing scheme was good

Your point highlights a key attribute that any member of the Board should possess in abundance: resilience. It's a dead cert that the individuals will piss off as many fans as they please no matter what stance they take on any matter under discussion.

I'm also not convinced that their role should be to collate opinions either... should they be a mouthpiece of the group think (even assuming they could assimilate such a consensus opinion)? I'd have thought that the more compelling way to do it is to advocate their own personal opinion; after all there are 8 Board members, the chances are that the club will get to hear a variety of opinions from such a grouping in any case.

Is that the Bozo I last saw dressed as a clown at Gerry Cottles ?
