Am I completely crazy, or do i remember hearing at the initial meeting all those years ago at hove town hall that it was going to cost 20 mill? Where did the 45 mill extra come from??!!

I would imagine quite a lot of inflation since back then and we've had to change the design a few times. It has risen 10 mil since we got planning permission!

If you look at the blueprint that shows the east stand you can see that it has been designed to accomodate a further tier, which i guess could expand the 5000 seater east stand to around 10,000.

if you go onto the council's planning website and look at the documentation for the stadium, you can see loads of blueprints of the stadium. If you open the pdf file section marked cc and section f-f it shows the west and east stand from a side profile and you can see clearly where an additional stand coiuld slot in.

Got bored so thought i'd post a picture of the East stand to show how easily a secod tier could be added.

lets worry about filling the initial stands first....

question: is the largest stand the South Stand, and are there any plans for the "North Stand" becoming like the old North Stand

It looks like the largest stand is the East Stand which has three tiers.

The west stand is the largest by far. The stands capacities are as follows;

East 5,194
West 12,204
North 2,564
South 2,538

Any news on the steel ?

I dont think so, but i understand it is the responsablity of the Buckingham group. Perhaps the club have already paid for this and it is not part of the funding that still needs 'signing off'

?

You misunderstand. Of course we need a new ground of our own if we are to have any future, but we have been a lower league club now for the best part of 20 years, our finances are awful, and we are spending probably double what every other club has that has built a new ground of our status.

Surely we could have got something more than decent for half the price that would have done adequately for now and then added to it later if we needed to?

You want a budget lego stadium? I'd rather not have one at all.If you're going to do it, do it properly surely shirley?

Colchester was a prime example of a box stadium. Cheap and cherfull a million times better facilitys than Layer Road, but no atmosphere.

Lets hope Falmer has some charector and colour inside, not just breezed blocked cold bars selling Fosters.

I think it will have some differences to the cold box stadia, just hope it has a good supporters bar and some personal touchs to offer an independent look and feel.

That's a crap example. You can get much better than that for considerbly less than 65m. Look at Doncaster and Blackpool as a good example. If it is built well it can expand.

I take your point but both stadiums required very little in the way of excavation. As a previous poster said planning consent would never have been given if the stadium had a similar profile to other modern stadiums.
