Just been looking at the construction diary thing in yesterdays match program all seems pretty interesting. I didn't realise the interior would take a year to complete!

Perry mentions something about being close to getting the funding 'signed off' is funding now just a formality or is that just a bit of spin for 'we're trying to get funding', anyone in the know?

I was just looking at that old PDF download from the programme a while ago, and in one of the images (page 9) it looks as if two of the corners are filled in. This would create a horseshoe of home seating, and then leave the west(?) end for the away supporters?

I know the picture you mean but if you look at the blue prints on the councils website you can see they have changed, none of the stands are joined.

Let's hope it does get sorted - because based on their current budget (65M) and programme (2 years) that's an average payment of 2.5M a month - and the first month that the Buckingham group does not get paid they will be walking off site.................

Im going to say it. £65m is a f***ing crazy amount of cash for a club in our situation to be paying. Other teams better than us have paid half that amount for mediocre stadia fit for 20k supporters, and I fail to see why we are gambling shit or bust on an ego project.

Would a mediocre stadium have got planning permission? The stadium *had* to be a "designed" one rather than a photocopied lego box to fit in with the surrounding landscape to have any chance of getting PP.

You can also build one of those lego box stadia for far less than half of 65M if you had to - Athlone Town's quarter built stadium (one 6,000 seater stand along one side; pitch and full floodlighting obviously) cost them the then equivalent of about 3.5M - sizing that up and building a 20,000 shitbox would cost about 12M. Looks nice but in reality wouldn't be much better than Withdean for facilities.

Yes, but the club aren't paying £65m....there are lots of parties involved (eg: B&HCC, SEEDA, LSC, etc, etc).

Are you being serious? We have spent well over 10 years travelling to shit football stadiums to watch our team play, and you are moaning that our stadium is a ego project? Do you not think it's necessary?

It's definitely not gamble either. A gamble would be not to do it and try to survive at Withdean or groundshare somewhere, which would be a disaster that the club would not survive.

You misunderstand. Of course we need a new ground of our own if we are to have any future, but we have been a lower league club now for the best part of 20 years, our finances are awful, and we are spending probably double what every other club has that has built a new ground of our status.

Surely we could have got something more than decent for half the price that would have done adequately for now and then added to it later if we needed to?

No that is the problem. The ground needs to be in the style it is to get planning permission. The only way to save money would have been to reduce the seating capacity. This would not have saved much money since the space would still have been there. Added to that is the fact that there would be no guarantee that we would get planning permission when we wanted to add more seats.

That's so the capacity can go up later innit! :clap2::clap2:

If you look at the blueprint that shows the east stand you can see that it has been designed to accomodate a further tier, which i guess could expand the 5000 seater east stand to around 10,000.

if you go onto the council's planning website and look at the documentation for the stadium, you can see loads of blueprints of the stadium. If you open the pdf file section marked cc and section f-f it shows the west and east stand from a side profile and you can see clearly where an additional stand coiuld slot in.
