“Football is the people's game, and should be at the heart of the community. That means that everyone, regardless of who they are, or where they come from, should be able to watch, enjoy and play football. So I am delighted that FC United is supporting the Kick Racism Out Of Football week of action.

“There is no place for racism in British football, and we should challenge it at every level.

“Because football is a global phenomenon, there is a danger that football clubs lose their basis in the community. FC United has shown that passion still counts for something, that football is as much about the small teams as well as the giants, and that communities can come together to create something special.”

“I had a fantastic time at 'People United Day', the atmosphere was brilliant and there was a real sense of unity and togetherness. My team, Salford City Football Club are the only team to have beaten FC United this season, so I’m really looking forward to the replay – it’ll be close one!”

Roz, we may all be a little less pessimistic tomorrow but this afternoon I went round to see 2 STH's who have been supporting the Albion since they were lads. One is 75 the other 78. I broke the news re the delay but trying to be chipper I said "It's only a couple of weeks". Said one "2 weeks. I work on the basis that I live for one more day at my age. Chances of me seeing a stadium at Falmer get less and less" So a few weeks delay may not matter in the great scheme of things but every delay means some supporters will never see Falmer. If it was just bad luck that caused the delays, oK but they have been caused by the Nimbys and Government cock ups. No wonder some people are fed up.

Your post echo's my sentiments too. Must be an age thing I suppose.Far too many of our supporters have passed away , never mind without having a stadium, but not even knowing if we are going to get one. I,m "knocking on" a bit now, and I want to know too, before I peg out.
I did post on another thread , about Martin Perry thinking there might be a delay of a couple of weeks, so this news is not exactly unexpected.
It is no wonder that so many feel so deflated today.

Can I just throw in another observation?

There are several people on this thread who seem to be think the delay could have been avoided if the decision had been announced before Ruth Kelly left. They seem to think that the failure to do that is unforgivable and that this makes them also think that the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) must be involved in some conspiracy to make things difficult for the Albion.

To them I suggest this alternative scenario:-

1. Ruth Kelly's departure was not unexpected;

2. Her replacement was widely tipped to be Yvette Cooper;

3. Yvette Cooper is a former junior planning minister who had previously been handling the Falmer stadium application;

4. Up until last Thursday afternoon, the DCLG therefore had perfectly reasonable grounds for thinking that the decision could still be made by 9 July - because Yvette Cooper would make it and she was familiar with the issues;

5. The delay ONLY BECAME NECESSARY when Gordon Brown intervened and promoted Yvette Cooper to the new beefed-up housing portfolio and made Hazel Blears Secretary of State.

So this is hardly a DCLG conspiracy or cock-up, or even something that should have been foreseen weeks ago. It's a consequence of Brown's decision on his ministerial appointments that nobody expected until it happened.

Lord B, I have no reason to doubt your integrity on these matters, and I certainly bow to your experience in such matters, indeed, you are fast becoming a legend in your own right. Many has been the time when your reasoned and informed points of view have brought me (and others I suspect) back from the depths of despair.

BUT, for me, there have just been too many steps backward, and I have doubts, probably not based on anything tangible, or even factual, however I am not convinced that everything is as it seems. I really hope that I am wrong. It's probably just years of heartache and disappointment festering inside of me. My other problem is that I have a basic distrust in all politicians, which is not good I suppose, but it's there nevertheless.

Even more reason to hate the tosser, especially as he smugly said when he came to Hove Town Hall just a few weeks back " I look forward to coming back to Brighton when the decision is announced ".

I have read all the posts and no amount of spin doctoring can change the fact the club and supporters have been let down yet again but a bunch of hopeless , imcompetant red flag wavers. Where is the post about when the decision would be made as I wisely voted not by 9th July as I just knew these fools would feck it up again, please bounce the poll

Well then, I think that you are sadly misguided, I don't think Blears and Co are particularly bothered about Brighton Hove Albion FC full stop.

I think that the delay is MUCH more likely to be because what is critically important to us, is very low down on their priorities. To think differently, I think you'd be kidding yourself.

I believe that if this Government had been properly organised, they would have made this decision before Gordon came to power, and I would argue that if they did truly consider us as a priority, they would have done just that.

I think you just don't like the Labour Party mate and are using this as an excuse to have a pop at them, and your not the only one.

Why people are getting their knickers in a twist over a two week delay when the reasons seem pretty obvious (change of Sec of State) is beyond me.

I think it is called disappointment, they have been psyching themselves up for the 9th for a long time now. It’s like telling a kid that Christmas presents can only be opened on Boxing Day.
It has the fans fighting amongst themselves, but they all want the same thing, a YES.

Think what you like, I have no grudge with the Labour Party, in fact I think it's fair to say that none of the three parties have covered themselves with glory when it comes to Falmer

nice, could you be more condescending?

Of course I am disappointed, I said as much, who isn't? But it's much more than that, I am angry about the whole planning process since day 1, not just today's news, and I happen to believe that much more could have been done by all the parties in shortening the time is has taken us to get to this stage.

exactly none of the parties have ever put their position in the public domain, the labour party mps have been the most supportive.

I can only guess that everyone blaming labour are from the bourgois mid sussex conservative areas. I also live in one of these areas with 'big' houses and the fortunate few and am fully aware that in these areas parties support any public issues that might get a few votes. Like Norman f***ing Baker.:falmerspi

I think its called hysteria.

Christ, you talk about disappointment, why now, we should all be used to being disappointed on the planning application saga by now. However, my "disappointement" in this case is tempered by the reasonable assumption that the delay is due to ministerial changes.

Hence, no need for knicker wetting.

I agree and I think hysteria was a better choice of word.:rolleyes:
