Interesting.

I wonder how the times work out for Littlehampton, Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham etc from the west?

I live in the Lancing Massive and it takes about 40 minutes to withdean, so not that much difference to Falmer.

Depart: 13:30 Lancing [LAC]
Arrive:14:19 Falmer [FMR]
49 minutes

I live in Hastings and whenever I have got the train over it has a few Brighton on it. By car it is about an hour from my house to Withdean so not a bad run, although obviously there will be parking issues at Falmer.

Eastbourne may depend on whether Borough can stay in the Conference and build from there.

I grew up in Horsham and never many Brighton fans around back then. More so now maybe, but a little to convenient to train it to the big lights of London to really make it a hotbed of support.

if brighton had a long era of real ascendency (ie. what is MANIFESTING RIGHT UP IN HERE NOW DAWG) we would have all sussex, the lost generations of glory hunting kids would start tuning in, i reckons.

I hate to say this AGAIN, but there are a lot of people assuming it's going to be easy getting the train.

No, only half that.

I think I read that there is something like half a mill in the South East Business / Development area which I think includes Worthing to Eastbourne and up to H Heath area but there are indeed approx. 250k in B&H

461,181 in the the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation. (2001)

Thats the "thing" I was thinking of - would imagine thats hit 500k by now with the past 9 years of housebuilding and immigration

I see no reason why our catchment area can't go as far west as Chichester. After all, it's in Sussex, and we are going to be better than Portsmouth in a few years.

Not really that logical, it would be like people in Chesterfield, choosing Derby over Sheff U or Sheff Wed just because they live in Derbyshire.

We probably have one of the largest potential catchments of any league team, all of sussex (and most of kent), if we were to get into the premiership even non supporters would come to watch games. We would sell out for any team in top half of prem.

I forgot how much of a trek it can be from Eastbourne, and I really will struggle to think how we can attract new fans in Hastings under our catchment personally until we have a new bypass connecting from Queensway to Bexhill and Eastbourne at least.

Behave !

Falmer will be about 1/2 hour by train from Eastbourne and just under an hour from Hastings. No real need to drive at all. If you insist on driving however - I currently do East Hastings to Carden Ave in 50 mins to an hour no problem at all.

Loads of interest in Falmer from folks I speak to in Hastings.

f*** me, if you find Withdean a trek from Eastbourne then you're surely best off going to Priory Lane each week.

Just out of interest, how old is the map that shows Tunbridge Wells to the north of Brighton whereas Crawley (straight up the A23) is to the North West? Surely it's Crawley the North, Horsham to the North West and Tunbridge Wells to the North East.

Working on the assumption that you could leave home at 1/1.30pm and be in your seat at Falmer by kick off time (including park and ride if required) how big an area is our potential catchment area?

Littlehampton to the West, Horsham/Crawley to the North West, Tunbridge Wells to the North, Hastings to the East?

I know there will be people who travel from far and wide, but my question is really what sort of catchment area do we have for the 'casual' fan who decides at lunchtime he wants to come and see a game?

What's the latest that 'casual' fan could buy a ticket on the day?

Littlehampton is our last outpost, in the west. Bognor and beyond is Pompey.

Newhaven 11144
Seaford 23000
