Falkirk message board seem unhappy

he is a Palace reject though! send him back

That's more like it. For a moment this thread was becoming too positive and it needs to get back to the negativity of recent bitching about the lack of transfer news :jester:

Some people don't seem to understand that this is a war we are waging and patience is a must as we battle adversity after adversity.

Well done the club and up the Albion :albion2::albion2:

Ah.... from the BBC website "Falkirk had wanted to retain Thomson's services, but the midfielder wanted to return to England for personal reasons."
I accept that, but England's a big place and it still doesn't explain why he'd want to come to a third tier club when he's currently at a club who are sixth in the SPL. I know it's a mickey mouse league compared to the Premiership but I doubt if our current side would be good enough to be sixth in the the SPL.

Hey lads. Falkirk fan here.

I take it a few of the posters having wee digs at the SPL don't watch much Scottish football do they? Clearly, I'm not going to sit here and try and say the SPL is a wonderful league, we have Gretna playing in it for f***'s sake. Although that freakshow is going to be a one-off and will be back in the Unibond League within a few years. It's hard to compare, but football wise, I think you could say that the top 6 in the SPL, apart from the Old Firm would hold their own in the Championship, with the bottom 6 (apart from Gretna) probably mid-table League One standard. Money-wise the SPL can't compete, with the Glasgow Bigot Brothers taking what little cash available for themselves. As for the stadiums comment, I'm sure Stevie will miss visiting Ibrox and Celtic Park (two of Europe's best stadiums IMO), but I don't know him, so who knows. The SPL will have three clubs involved in European competition beyond Christmas this season. Celtic in the Champions League, Rangers and Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup. So to sum that all up, the standard of the SPL is a lot higher than a lot of people think it is. Just ask Arsene Wenger.

As for Stevie, you have bagged yourselves a bargain IMO. Had his wife settled up here, he'd have gone on to be a fantastic player for us, we were just starting to see the best of him. I don't know what the exact figure was but I don't think we can complain too much. As far as I know his contract was up in the summer, and that combined with his personal problems, we kind of had our hands tied.

Good luck for the rest of the season, I hope Thommo does well, and I'll look out for your results.

COYB.

Thanks for the comments fella. Just one thing, are you sure Celtic Park is one of the best in Europe? Only I've heard that CP is utter gash. Aberdeen and the Edinburgh teams seem to have nicer stadia to be honest (even if they are much smaller).

Thanks for the post - I would like to add that most Albion fans, rather than belittling the SPL are quite surprised that he would want to leave an SPL team to come down to Withdean and League 1.

Exactly. Sounds like we should be thanking our lucky stars on this one and credit to DW and DK et al for pulling this one off.

Thanks for that sober message, and your assessment for the dichotomy that is the SPL. The EPL isn't way far away from similar disparity either, with the uber-rich clubs now buying the best players from the less wealthy, and paying them bigstyle to rot in their third team. It means that 3 or 4 clubs will always have carte blanche to the Prem title every season, with the remainder forming a hopeful sector that might have a stab at a Euro place, or a cup title.

As for the bit of the English league that we're occupying, it's hardly star-spangled or exclusive for anyone to come to set the league alight. My opinion is, that we'd be advised to make the new boys (along with the long-serving ones) feel that B&HA is a special enough club to play for. Hopefully then, we'll get the best out of every one who plays here.

Well I suppose everyone has their opinions. I think Celtic Park, from a players point of view would be a stadium anyone would love to play in. In the games we've been there, we have given Celtic a right good game most of the time, and the atmosphere has been tremendous. I suppose if Celtic were trouncing you by 5 or 6 it'd be a different story. Aberdeen is a coup except their new-ish stand with all the corporate nonsense built in. The Edinburgh clubs are good grounds to visit, always more or less full with a good atmosphere. You get the feeling that their supporters actually love the club, unlike the Old Scum fans that jump on buses from Falkirk every week to go to Celtic Park and Ibrox.

It's nothing new up here I guess. Celtic and Rangers have been signing players from the "diddy" teams for as long as I can remember. Our best player last season, Alan Gow, signed for Rangers in the summer and has appeared a total of ONE time, against East Fife in the CIS Cup. Nice one Alan.

I'm sure Stevie will give his all, he never gave anything but 100% commitment. I suppose that's why a lot of people are a bit shocked about him leaving. Club captain, playing his best football since he arrived, didn't seem to be any problems..

Believe you me we sympathise. Sussex is choc-a-bloc with fans of the 'Big Four' Premiership clubs who sneer at us for supporting our local team.

I also have to echo what Papa Lazarou said further up the page - rather than belittling the SPL most of can't believe that we've actually signed someone who has been playing regularly at a decent standard. A Raith Rovers reserve, yes. Someone who once had a trial at Kilmarnock, yes. But somebody who by the sound of it COULD go to places like Ibrox and Celtic Park and not look totally out of place? Naah. Not Brighton.

This signing just looks better and better... well done to Dick for getting Thomson in...

Bit like Celtic paying BHA£1.5 million for a player good enough to play for Colchester.

Step forward Adam mcVirgo and take a bow

We wouldn't have a snowball in hell's chance of coming 6th! And this Falkirk side are really rather good - there are only a couple of positions in which we have players who might, on their best days, compete with them.
