We were woeful. I can take us losing, but not turning up like that was shocking, an absolutely dire performance.

Hmm. I’ve read this a couple of times and I can’t really see what your getting at. My post didn’t comment on the overall quality of the current Albion squad/team because it’s clearly well under par - as is SFC. That’s the point of my post. What did you expect?

No more than my reply, it just seems you were viewing a totally different match.

We were poor today and carried on from our woeful performance against Millwall which has been so badly masked by our great escape to get to Wembley. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again - at this rate our ability to stay up will depend on whether Cardiff are more sh!t than us in the remaining games.

Very much this! I really think 17th place is best we can hope for! I can see Cardiff getting at least a point. Just look at our record against bottom 6 this season (apart from Huddersfield, who everyone beat)!

We were bound to lose today having won three in a row and dreaming of Wembley

Newcastle at home to me will be the game we have to win to stay up - its under lights in the evening - we invariably win those games and atmosphere is always miles better for some reason - just like the Man Utd home game last season

And therein lies the rub, for some reason our club seems to think they can do it on the cheap, refusing to accept the reality of the premier league. Imagine what a player like Redmond would be like under CHs tutelage, alongside other appropriate premier league players, my goodness, we’d be disappointed to be in the lower half of the division.

And possibly bankrupt!

How many threads do we need to say we're winging it, hanging on by the skin of our teeth etc etc, we're just not quite good enough to be comfortable at this level.

I wish I could help. But I Can't

I’m amazed it took until post 25 for someone to mention next Saturdays game. They may be professional footballers, but tell me it wasn’t on their minds, just a wee bit...

Thought we were really poor today both on and off the pitch. Passing was pedestrian and lacking in quality. Movement from Murray and latterly Locadia was poor and midfield lacked any spark of invention. How many times did we go back and sideways and our only outlet and chance creation method is crossing from anyway usually with little or no quality. Thought the crowd were very quiet too and bar one Albion chant completely outsung by Southampton. I also cannot remember my part of the west stand emptying to that degree ever. They'll all be there for the semi mind.

All in all a very bad day at the office...

Forgive me if others have made this point but surely this is a result that none of us should be surprised by. Two very well matched sides under current form, albeit Stains having lived in the Prem for a lot longer than us.

I think it was pretty even in the first half but one mistake in the second had us undone. And, as we’ve seen so many times this season we really struggled to get back into the game with our style of play.

So, very evenly matched - and I’ll take that with the time they’ve been in the Prem and the money that they’ve had to spend - but one bad mistake and a lack of original thought going forward cost us.

PS I’d take Nathan Redmond for us in a heart beat.
I would defend the Albion to the hilt under most circumstances but today was absolutely piss weak so lackadaisical in everything only Bernardo and Montoya can say they had decent games and bissouma in spells such negative play from the home side against a team below us is absolutely unforgivable

The atmosphere started off well today, but because we were so shithouse it tailed off as the first half wore on. We create so little, hardly much to get the crowd going.

Re the fact we were bound to lose today... I disagree; we've played like this most of the season. The performance today wasn't because we were dreaming of Wembley or whatever. We've been shyte all season

The Burnley match just a few weeks ago - the stadium was half empty by 75 minutes. Huge queues at the train and buses, 20 minutes ahead of the norm.

We played like the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. They are (likewise) in reality very poor, which makes our inability to take anything from the game even more stark. Ultimately the table doesn’t lie; they are marginally better than us. However... This worrying and seemingly persistent idea that we can look at this as a measure of where we are vs established big spending PL outfits is laughable at best, contemptible at worst. By this reasoning, well, WBA and Stoke would still be with us. Make no mistake we are masquerading in this division, we’re relying too much on the backbone of our Championship squad, and I fear this ‘jolly’ will prove to be nothing more than a costly weekend away at an overpriced three star resort on the outskirts of Blackpool...

And we thought we’d be front row centre at the Bellagio, boy... don’t let the dry ice blind you... this is north west England and it’s low budget dwarves on stilts and the occasional donkey... at this insipid rate, when the mist clears, we’ll be playing Blackpool.

Sort it out mr H.

was there two different bha v sfc games today? Parallel universes? So what if they've been in the prem longer? We have been there longer than wolves. Fair point.

Pretty even first half? From what perspective? Wsu. Struggled to get back in? From 70 mins, after they scored, we had 70% possession erm, haven’t we all learned at least that much this season that possesion means nothing.

Evenly matched? We wouldn't have been evenly matched playing dumbleston rovers of the outer mongolia league today. Sorry, not sure what you’re getting at here - could be my fault.

One bad mistake? We made shit loads, not masked by more goals against because they are crap, but sadly so are we. My point exactly.

You, my friend are trying to take the gloss off one of the worst performances you'll see from a team in brighton shirts. Don't spoil it for the rest of us.
gloss? I didn’t think you could polish a turd.

Why is it so bad at the Amex? It's the same before/after half time. People say it's the same at most other grounds, but it really isn't. The Amex definitely empties before half time/full time quicker than the vast majority of other grounds I've been to (a lot). It's a shame. Yes today was very poor, but we were finally having a bit of a go, only 1 down in a huge game, and the ground's half empty on 85 mins on a bloody lovely spring evening. Disappointng

My take is that it’s two entirely separate things:

1. Masses of people obsessed with getting the pints in at half time, hence the very long disappearance.

2. A remote out of city centre stadium with only 2 or 3 ways of escaping, leads to the early stampede, it’s a self fulfilling phenomena, with more and more people playing the same game. For us, it’s the difference between getting home an hour later, just as an example. The Etihad, Wembley and Emirates have exactly the same thing, when you watch games there or on TV. By contrast, stadia where yon can head home in every possible direction, such as Goodison, Anfield and Molyneux seem to hold fans later. I’ve been to games there, where this is generally the case.

I actually think the home game again Plucky in a couple of weeks is the one we should be targeting. Get 3 points there and then 1 against Cardiff wouldn't be the end of the world. I know it's not exactly inspiring stuff but that would mean Cardiff needing 9 points (10 with inferior goal difference) to catch us which is unlikely.
