Facebook trivial question

Someone please tell me why I'm being such a facebook idiot regarding tagging peoples' names in posts.

I'm sure it's simple but using the ipad app, I only seem to be able to tag some people in posts. I think I can always tag friends, but I know I can tag some people who are not friends, but can't tag everyone (either with "@" or without).

It is a setting of mine or maybe of theirs ? #feelingthick

I've not tried the web page on my laptop, I admit, should do I guess

Works on the web page on the iPad, so it's just the crappy Facebook app, I should have guessed.

That app is getting more and more on my tits. How can a company worth so much produce such awful software.
