Has anybody else noticed an increase in the number of city 'fans' on their facebook newsfeed? There are people I could have sworn blind supported other clubs putting pictures up of themselves wearing a replica city shirt or bar scarf...

Best one I saw was;

"all these new city fans were chelsea a couple of years ago!"

From an Arsenal fan. From Littlehampton.

Brilliant.

Same with Arsenal under George Graham. I'd only met one Arsenal fan in my life, until they won the League Cup in 1987. I know friends and family, who dumped their lifelong clubs such as Leeds & Ipswich to move (as an adult) to being a Gooner.
Is a sore subject ... don't like it being recalled!

And how many Chelsea fans did you know before the debt-ridden spending spree of Hoddle-Vialli-Gullit, and then Abramovich?

Psychologists call it Reflected Glory. Jumping on the success of others, to give the individual a feeling that it's their own success too.

Man City & their money are here to stay, so expect to see their clubs tops being worn in increasing numbers in Sussex.

0 shots on target, 0 shots off target.

Even I would find it difficult to put the blame on any of the opposing players. (But then I am a Brighton fan so more used to it) :ascarf:

Watched the game in a pub in East Grinstead (thats in West sussex not the Manchester East Grinstead) 4 Man city shirts and about 10 Man unt shirts...this young man was getting very excited about the game and was in a man unt shirt, so I turned to him and asked were he likes to sit when he goes to Old trafford "never been" was his grumpy answer as he knew I was taking the piss!!

How embarrassing to admit they have never been. I hear it all the time. Usual excuse is "I will try and get to a match this season" These people will never ever go.

All these facebook updates are funny.

I'm just glad NSC never has any ridiculous topics started after games....

you have to respect their honesty though, Ive spoken these Man U fans and quite often you get some bullshit about about how they sit in the 'Stratrford (sic) terrace or they've been a season ticket holder in The Clock Stand/Holte end/Lou Macaris chippy stand etc

Funny thing is I can name a handful of Brighton 'fans' I know have not seen Brighton play live. Does that then make them plastic fans? Is it just the lack of visiting the stadium that makes one 'plastic'? They've followed the club for as long as I've know them, but never been to a game, or just a handful of games over the years.

I've never really understood. I guess a lot of it is jealousy, sure, like Palace fans calling Brighton fans plastic because they're jealous of what they have and they're going to achieve.

They certainly haven't been following us for the glory over the years. Most plastic fans simply choose one of the big clubs so that they can c compensate for their low self-esteem as and when the said big club wins anything.

You can usually discover if someone is a plastic fan by asking the question "why do you support them?" The answer "because they're the best" means you definitely have a plastic on your hands. They may also go on the defensive with "my dad's mate's dog's best friend lives within 100 miles of Manchester" or sometimes even "I love [INSERT BIG NAME PLAYER]".
