Some interesting points.

As Adrie has just siad - I used to work in the Students' Union, and my (hopefully) girlfriend still does. In this type of career facebook is a neccesity - because it is where all the students are.

A valid point about 'kids' perhaps I should have unsubscribed once I left my last job. I have now deleted anybody who is not known to me - Adrie - you'll be glad to know you are still on my freinds list!!

As for causing upset - my other half is now unconsolable and I am sat in the middle of a shared office trying not to look visibly upset.

Well, you need to tell your missus to pull herself together and stop being so sensitive as it is obviously a prank and both get on with your day.

As much as that sounds harsh, I agree with Nibble here. If your gf has any sort of trust in you she'll know that it's a load of rubbish.

The girlfiend did it - she was trying to engineer a way out of the relationship whilst looking blameless herself - never underestimate women.

Am I being dumb, can't you see the profile of the person that's doing this?!

No you aren't being dumb - this profile has no pic and no information other that their (fake) name - I know it is fake as they claim to be a student here, but it isn't on the directory.

I have had this person as a friend for over six months - which I guess means that this person has had an axe to grind for quite a while.

Strange.

Anyways, good news, girlfriend believes me over this moron, hopefully she will block him and we can move on. All this episode has done is remind me of exactly why I want to move away from this dump!

I thought you had to be a "friend" of the person you are writing on thier facebook page?

Surely you must know this person then? -

Interesting development...

I now have proof of who this is (although no motive). This person is a University student and I am a member of staff (well... I have been for six weeks now, but nevertheless I am staff) - should I pass over the students' details to the Uni's conduct and appeals uni?

No - long story short, my old job (in a Students' Union) required me to contact students on facebook - hence I had lots of 'friends' whom I had never actally met.

Can't you just ignore this? I take it you've now blocked them on facebook and now you know who it is. Be the bigger man.

Or just go and kick t'f*** out of him.

Abort, retry, fail
I guess it would come under harrassment. My Uni took a dim view on that sort of thing and I would imagine they might risk getting chucked off their course.

An ex-flatmate of mine is a former SU Deputy President if you want me to get some advice for you without having to go official yet?

"I cant do my work properly today because a stranger who has no real name, is accusing me of things on a social networking website that I havent done, and now it is affecting my personal life, even though I shouldnt be looking at this site during work hours"

How does that stand in terms of employment?

BoF - Thanks, I am an ex SU Vice-President myself and my girlfriend is a current SU sabbatical officer, which is why (I guess) we have been the victims of this.

I am going to save all the evidence for now and wait to see if anything further happens - as chappers says 'be the bigger man'. If it does continue, I happen to have a good relationship witht the head of conduct and appeals within the Uni, so I am sure she could give me an 'off the record' chat.

Thanks for all the advice - I have been impressed by the amount of useful posts!

Haha - good point. But I haven't been on facebook whilst at work - this developed beforehand last night and this morning. Although I have no excuse for looking at NSC!

I didnt mean that in a bad way to you, I know how terrible these things can get from experiences close to my heart. It just seems weird when you say it out loud

I have no excuses for looking on this site either :lolol:

No you big jessy. Here is what you should do. Tell your GF to stop being a moody, sensitive moron and then corner the bloke who did it and give him a bit of pasting. Job done, home for tea and toast.
