Worthing
I’m thinking after the Chelsea away game, and the first half against Spurs, Fab definitely changed tack.
He burnt the tactics for Forest away on the Monday morning apparently in front of the players. ( don’t believe that) so he isn’t going to be a pig stubborn so and so is he ? He’s learning on the job still but so impressed after the trouncing.

It is the manager that has adapted and credit to him. Many mistakes were made in a short time. Started against SouthamptonHalf time one up but for strange reason felt need to bring Dunk on and to do this went to 3 at back and Pervis as WB, Not only did this let Southamptron back in game I think he repeated this set up next game against Fulham. Very poor when 2 up against Leicester. Almost certain in unlikely event they were to get goals back Vardy would be involved but left him free twice in 5 mins. Against Wolves 2 up but still gung ho leaving 3 at backI noticed against Chelsea VanH making a great run with ball to Half way After passing ball instead of continuing forward quickly returned to CH position.

Until the Chelsea game recently, it looked like he was showing zero ability to adapt. The same suicidal tactics, game after game.

The Forest game seems to have checked his cockiness, and I’m all for that if it means he shows a willingness to adapt (or has been forced to). We’ve been a substantially better football side since, and he deserves the credit for that.

For all that I loved RdZ while he was here, this was his biggest Achilles heel. It was his way at all times and led to some frankly weird team selections this time last year as he made a depleted squad fit his system rather than adapting even slightly.

I was a bit iffy about him for a while but I'm pleased to see that he's been able to adapt, and seems to have the intelligence to know when he need to change / leave things alone / trust others. Seems also to have benefitted from the other German guy arriving. Another thing that's pretty impressive that even in the worse moments he didn't panic and carried that weight well.

I think quite a few things have contributed to the upturn,

Settling on a more consistent team. It took a while as there were so many incoming, and I bet he felt obliged to give certain players more game time. But he's stopped faffing so much and trusted good players to operate in a simple system.

The squad trimming in hindsight all looks sensible. Rutter, Wellbeck and Pedro is a sweet front 3 to rotate, with Ayari available as another 10. I do wonder whether getting sulking figures like Enciso and Ferguson out the door has Freed everyone up a bit. I'm not saying they're bad eggs, we were just top heavy.

Lamptey coming into good form giving us a lively full back presence.

The return of Hinshelwood who gives a more muscular feel to midfield and feels like a better balance alongside Baleba.

And Webster coming in and looking a bit fitter and leaner than Dunk has of late.

Loads of things, some design and some opportunism. But that's the nature of good management!

The recent displays after wins have put paid to the idea that players weren't having him etc. Seems like a happy camp.

It wasn’t really ‘faffing about’, it was a succession of injuries that prevented him from selecting a more settled side and allowing partnerships to develop.

It's a weird dynamic. I remember when Coventry City sacked Gordon Strachan he said it was a bit ironic as he was now actually a much better manager than when they first employed him as it was his first managerial job and he learnt as he went along.
