Hello lurking St Pauli fans.
Uh?

If you think it’s Fabian Hũrzeler holding out for a higher fee you a very much mistaken - its been widely reported we’ve agreed personal terms and we have a work permit for him.

It wasn’t Caicedo holding out for £125M from Chelsea- it was us. We didn’t want to let him go but were prepared to do so at a highly inflated price.

That’s the meaning of the comparison - it wasn’t meant literally 🙄

It’s got fcuk all do do with villages and Mums .

FCSP have just been promoted to the Bundesliga and we want not only their manager but very possibly several of their coaching team too - one that was already there before FH took over.

How much we give FCSP could be the difference between them staying up next season or being relegated. Of course they are driving a very hard bargain.
I hope we compensate fairly. They are a great club aligned with a lot of the values of our club and city.

However I fear if they or their owner play too much poker with Bloom, they will get burned.

What’s the rush? Half the squad is on international duty and Hurzeler isn’t likely to want to head to Falmer or Lancing while the Euros are on in his home country (he is not American).
Sorry but this idea is completely mental, I’m not sure why I’ve seen it like three times. If we have a manager who is not going to be available until 15th July (a week before we go to Japan) then he should not hired. Yes there’s no rush, but if we have a manager who isn’t going to work until well into pre season we are complete idiots.

If I were in charge of St. Pauli, I would be saying to Tony, you got £20M for Potter, so we want £25M for Hurzeler, he is a better coach. I know he is a better coach, because Potter is available to you now and lives on your doorstep, but you are here asking me to let Hurzeler go.
If I were Tony, I would reply, you are right, Fabian is a better coach, but Potter was never worth £20M, that was a f*** off price we had in his contract that we never thought anyone would be stupid enough to pay. We can give you £5M, Mamoud Dahoud on loan for a season, and the names on my list below Hurzeler.

I’m not sure I feel as strongly as you about it. Players are away at international tournaments or on holiday, the club has its transfer targets set up already. I see that it’s preferable to give a new coach as much time as possible to acclimatise and get settled in, but what do you think will be drastically different between a coach starting on 14th June and a coach starting on 14th July?

Nobody seems to have any pre-season matches organised before 20th July, Copa America doesn’t finish until the 14th. We’ve got our new medical chaps on hand to get the squad physically conditioned for the new season. I’m not sure what you’re expecting to happen in that month?

Jesus Christ, if Fabian turns out to be a better coach that Potter, the club is absolutely genius. Especially by pretending that McKenna was our number one target as a red herring, then pretending that we were actually after Potter, but secretly had someone BETTER than Potter lined up the whole time in Herz.

Genius.

If this falls through, we're f***ed, I reckon.

Unless we can Potter to come back here now that he knows he's not getting the Man Utd gig.

Saying stupid stuff so you look like a moron is trolling in the same way that smearing dogshit over your face and then going out in public is a prank.

People may have an adverse reaction but at the end of the day you’re the one who stinks of dogshit.

I doubt the deal's in any danger of not going through. Bornemann is known in the business (over here) to be an incredibly strong negotiator but I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing holding the deal back rn is that he wants to have succession figured out before giving his final ok. That's kinda how he operates and he won't be rushed by anyone 😁

We don't have an owner btw, club's owned by the fans.

PS: Hope peeps from other clubs chiming in here is all right with you guys, at least in a situation like this 😣
Away fans are very much ok so long as they behave. Think of NSC as a virtual pub where a fan of any team can drink so long as they don’t attract the attention of the bouncers.

If you’ve read for more than 5 minutes you’ll know that’s it’s often very much our own lot who’ve had too much and are now shouting in a corner,

Oh, and watch out for offended liver sausages.

You sound like a man who has experience with doing this.

Not trolling. Concerned for club if this falls through. Disappointed to miss out on Potter, but happy to settle for this guy. Some of the other reported options are horrifying and would write off this season for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if there are some other randos that the club has on their list that we don't know about though.

I wonder what the club would do if they literally can't get any decent manager in. Caretaker manager for a bit?

With all respect who is going to want to sign for a club with no manager at that point? The manager (or head coach) has to prepare pre season training schedules, his plan with who is required within the squad, assessing the fitness of the squad. To think the manager is going to sit around twiddling his thumbs for a month watching football on Telly, is naive at best. This is football in the 21st century not Adams taking them for a run around the university then a couple of abandoned friendlies in Ireland.

I know that with all the reporting around this appointment it might well feel like it is a done deal, but I can't help but think us being managerless might give one or two targets pause when considering coming to us. Could be wrong of course.

Edit: What @jackalbion said

I would like to come to an agreement with you as to how we can objectively decide this after the first season.
To make it fairer, we will not use Potter's first season as a comparison,as he had to change the style and the squad was weaker, but if Hurzeler gets more points this season than Potter got in season 2, he is likely the better coach, and if gets something close to or in excess of the points gained in Potter's 3rd season, he is clearly the better coach, as this is probably a weaker squad, and he has come from a standing start, agreed?

Agree waiting a month is too long to be ideal but a few more days is only going to have a very minimal impact.

Unfortunately, one of them is me not getting my winning bet settled

I think you need three years of data to get a good idea of the ability of a coach. Eg. I suspect RDZ rode Potters wave of success in the first season, and got found out and ran out of ideas in the 2nd. I suspect if he stayed here a third season, he would have been sacked for underperforming. Over time I believe it will be clear that Potter was a superior manager all along - and RDZ is one a trick pony, that will fail in his other endeavours.

Potter took us from perpetual relegation candidates into a solid mid table side. If Hurzeler takes us from a solid mid table side into solid European candidates within 3 seasons, I will totally accept that he is as good, if not better, than Potter.

But sadly, I'm not that optimistic. I believe it will be a MIRACLE if we've somehow identified this 31 year old worldie manager that will take the Premier League by storm. Realistically, I think he's the 'next best' available on the clubs' list. If he prevents relegation in his first two seasons, I'll be delighted.
