If we tried to stay focused on FH and less focussed on political debate there wouldn’t be a need for a “dedicated thread’ - certain people are derailing the FH discussion unnecessarily imo

Surely it would be fairer to move the discussion about politics to another thread rather than the discussion of the very thing that makes FH right for us.

(Re tactics - This thread started with a discussion about his tactics and suitability with a lot of referenced articles and videos - and his suitability which is one of the same thing - and plenty of contributions by others since 🙄)
No shit Sherlock - that's why I've got 1,500 threads on ignore

I know there's been some controversy with St Pauli fans and pro Gaza stuff.....
Not to go back to this subject BUT this is where the global fan clubs thing gets a bit annoying. St Pauli locally were more pro Israel due to their long established friendship with Hapoel Tel Aviv and all the global fan clubs got a bit upset about it, including some abandoning. While I don't personally agree with the view of St Pauli locally, I do think that the local fans of the club should really dictate the direction of the club. Like I said the only political view I want Brighton to be, is a local community institution which provides the opportunity for local people or people with local connections to watch football, regardless of wealth. Anyway I won't speak on it again to really keep this on subject.

Sussex but not by the sea
The role of the 'head coach' is changing (a 'manager' buying/selling is long gone). 31 seems young but remember he's going to be coaching players ~10 years younger than him, the likes of Welbeck don't need coaching, they need to understand the tactical direction and have their minutes managed, dare I say it but if you put a RACI in place then Dunk, Welbeck & Milner etc would be consulted as well as informed.

The modern head coach is all about tactics, style and motivation. The board set the overall strategy and buy/sell the players.

I hadn't really thought about it like this but you're right.

Maybe he won't just wholesale bring his back room staff over. Maybe he'll want someone with the qualities he doesn't necessarily have (Brighton experience, PL experience, experience in general). In the same way Venables bought in Don Howe, maybe an older head, someone not looking for a top job. I don't have any names to offer.

Separately, I do also think this might be a chance to Milner to step up to a dual role
Sammy Lee anyone? :ROFLMAO:

Bruno is a snake
Where it's been useful to the club in the past, we've put pragmatism first and been rewarded. If Bruno could be of use in helping the new coaching team engage with the significant Spanish/Portugese speaking element within the squad, we know we'd be getting a role model in terms of the professional application required to maintain standards at the top.

However, if leaders within the squad share your view, it would obviously be a non starter, something that wasn't mentioned much during the discussions about Potter.

Why do you say this?

My understanding is that he got offered a role with GP at Chelsea, whilst having no guarantee that the new Brighton manager would want him around (and in fact as it turned out, RDZ brought a large back room staff with him which would have seriously limited Brunos options even if he had stayed).

Doesn't seem unreasonable the path he chose and don't understand why there is such animosity towards him.

I don't have much evidence, but I'd say Bruno is a good guy. A few years back he helped me raise some money for a refugee charity I work for in Athens (he donated a pair of his boots for me to auction). He's also occasionally kept in contact ref the charity. I also believe he was one of the players (and ex-players) who contribute to Juan Mata's Common Goal charity.

of all the people who left at that time. Bruno was the most understandable, he was learning the job of coaching, wasnt established and had, as you say no gaurantees his services would be required or even wanted. Had he left prior to Potter to go to a coaching job, IMO no one would have had an issue with that

Given RDZs large staff it seems unlikley Bruno would have been anywhere near the senior squad.
Nathan Jones left as Hughton arrived for similar reasons I think

I've seen this argument put forward several times and it doesn't chime with me. Andrew Crofts moved up into the role that Bruno vacated and I'd have presumed that, had he not gone, that role would have been Bruno's and Crofty would have stayed with the U21s. I also get the impression that RDZ would have loved him. He would have probably joined RDZ, Lallana and Gross as part of the cadre of total obsessives that I've heard Dunk joking about and Lallana referencing.

The dull part of the south coast
Bruno is a snake
I will counter this with a discussion I had with my daughter when the mass exodus to Chelsea occurred. I had the same view as you - how could a club legend jump ship in such a despicable manner? My daughter replied that by moving with the rest of Potter’s team he was assured of employment within the Chelsea set up. On the other hand, had he remained at Brighton the opposite could have been the case. RDZ comes in with his team and there’s no position for Bruno to fill - so he’s out on his ear. A tough one to judge.

I think it's really sad that a player who played over 200 times for us, captained us into the Premier League and was one of the finest players we've seen in the stripes is reduced to being called a snake by grown adults, simply because he took a better job.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if he comes back, he'll be welcomed by me.

he may well have been ok, but a possible job with an unknown manager, or a definite one with the team you are with at that moment. I can certainly see why he went

We were never sacking Bruno or Roberts. We'd have had to have reached an accommodation with RDZ.

If they had stayed they would still be in a job now. But they would be much poorer
