Sorry but this is complete nonsense.

A football club is a community. Brighton is “woke” but is also the Sussex team and there are loads of deprived estates and communities within the catchment area. It’s naturally left wing.

Liverpool won’t buy The Sun quite rightly and have a totally separate identity to the rest of the country.

Millwall totally represent the politics of white Bermondsey.

Celtic and Rangers still indulge in sectarianism.

Cardiff hate the English only marginally less than they hate Swansea.

Literally all of these are examples of the politics that sit naturally in communities, particularly working class ones.

And there are fascist clubs. Lazio, Hellas Verona and Hansa Rostock for three. Surely the left wing ones offer counter balance?
Agree, but rather we didn't shove it down the throats of those who may not agree. Sussex is broad in right and left, so just leave it to the fans to decide outside of football. I go to watch and enjoy myself, not have politics thrown at me. I'm centre left btw before you say GAMMON ;)

Brighton fans representing their city and county community? Anti fascist clubs opposing racism? Welsh fans hating their traditional oppressors? Really?
If Brighton fans represent the whole city and county then we can't be not far off 50/50 right/left wing. Sussex as a whole is not by any means a noted hotbed of radical left wing socialism.

The thing is, it sounds great when you phrase it as "Brighton could be the English St Pauli". But personally I've never heard anybody suggest that English football would be improved by more closely resembling Celtic/Rangers or Roma/Lazio other than general moans about "wouldn't it be nice if the stadiums were a bit louder".

Let’s face it, our supporters are too mild mannered and inoffensive to ever be compared to any of those clubs. But I would only be delighted if we were closely associated with the progressivism of the city. (Edit: And I think we are, by many.)

I’m not looking for it. My instinct is that this will complete in the next few days after the legals are sorted out. He’s defo our man.

But things can always go to shit. In my experience, that could be over a misplaced comma.
"We would like to welcome Henrik Rydström as the new head coach of Brighton and Hove Albion. After an extensive search, he was the outstanding candidate and the number one choice of both myself and Chairman Tony Bloom" !

Exactly the generosity and inclusivity I was referring to. 👍
Antipathy toward a club that we have just swooped their manager from 5 mins after them celebrating promotion, is a little unpalatable imo and a little sad.

I’ve been popping over to the St Pauli fan forum - they’ve been praising our Club in the past 24 hrs and wishing a manager they adore, luck in his new career step.

Absolute troopers.

WTF?

He'd finished eighth - twice - in a top-level league, and won a cup. (And briefly managed in the Champions League.)

That's waaaay more experience than GP or FH.
Sure there was a touch of irony about my post but I think it's a tad foolish to claim FH won't garner respect because of his age.

I unequivocally, 100% did not suggest that!

My point was that his position - in terms of reputation - is barely any different to Potter's when he joined.

I think Brighton do have a left wing edge, but are generally apolitical, most if not all, are anti racism, homophobia etc, but making the football club solely left wing like St Pauli does not indicate a broad church. I know a very left wing German bloke who supports HSV, they’re not really a right wing club. St Pauli do irritate me a bit, but I have no issue with them, I prefer the herd mentality and city representing Marseille, rather than them. I’m probably far left (according to people on here) but I think it would be unnecessary to be like that, Brighton is currently in my opinion very representative of the city and surrounding area, and like in the original point, I don’t want a global brand and fan clubs in every city because of that. I want a local football club where people from all walks of life in the city can afford to attend.

I find it unfathomable that the concept of opposing prejudice is considered political at all. I don't think Albion has any political leaning. I just see it as a club that promoted good community relations.
