FA paying £50,000 a week for Owen

Surely FA's aren't obliged to do this, or Ivory Coast and Ghana wouldn't be able to afford to take the risk of anything happening to Drogba or Essien.

This is crazy.

I think it's only right the FA pay up, especially considering he obtained the injury on England duty, otherwise we will have even more non cooperation from clubs for internationals.

Read somewhere he was targetting the end of March as a comeback date.

Good, hope it works out for him

But what about those (as mentioned above) countries that can't afford to take the risk of playing their players? The English FA must be one of the richest governing bodies in the football world.

What about the Benjani's of Portsmouth & Zimbabwe or the Drogba's of the Ivory coast?

So what about all the countries around the World whose FA's are rich enough to make these sort of payments if their star players get injured during Internationals? Are they exempt, or are you happy to see International football die because the FA in Brazil dare not pick Ronaldinho, et al?

I thought they came to an agreement that is was on full pay until the end of 2006 and the half pay until July 2007, unless he got another job.
You are possibly right, I remember reading about it somewhere but not the details.

Absolute nonsense.

The FA and FIFA shouldn't need co-operation from the clubs.

It is the FA and FIFA who allow clubs like Newcastle United to take part in THEIR tournaments. As part of the conditions of taking part in the Premiership, FA Cup, European champions league or UEFA cup the club should obide by the rules of FIFA, UEFA and the FA and allow the national teams PRIORITY in selection of national players!

It should be up to the clubs to make sure they have the correct insurance for players to take part in National tournaments.
