As long as the “correct” decisions often don’t go against the top clubs when they score, fury will continue
Two of the worst VAR f*** ups have been against Arsenal and Liverpool. But carry on with that thought process
I seem to recall just about every pundit, journalist and fan in the country baying for video refs after Lampard’s “goal” at the 2010 World Cup.
I really can’t shake the feeling people are miffed because a borderline but probably correct decision led to a result they didn’t want to happen happening, which I’m afraid just turns the whole thing into little more than sour grapes.
People are annoyed because this was not how it was sold.
I understand offside is offside, but when it comes down to what we saw yesterday and previous incidents (macs wonder strike disallowed etc etc) it's gubbins.
If we are disallowing goals for that, they need to start checking correctly given corners/throw ins/fouls - as they have more impact than a toe nail being offside.
That's before we even look into yellow cards and the impact they have on matches/suspensions - Havertz dived and should have received second yellow v Brentford, then popped up to score winner.

I checked IFAB law 11 and it has a definition that the play is the first point of contact.

This incident has stuck with me... One pundit, I want to say Andy Townsend, was covering a match in which there was an incident, ref made a call, but Andy doubted it. They spent the next five minutes looking at various replays from a range of angles and ultimately he said he wasn't sure, and couldn't say with any certainty. But that it showed why we need to bring in video replays.
He was so determined to argue for video replays, he didn't give any thought to how logical his comments were. However, seemingly quite prophetic.

They are very rare though, haven't Liverpool only ever had one. The one where Klopp suggested the game should be replayed.

Go to 4:18 to watch him score a penalty, (awarded for a scandalous dive by Ollie Watkins) then celebrate in face of the teenage keeper, making his senior debut. And to 7 mins to see him try to get a Barnet player sent off.

Speaking of Antony... I suspect it's up to the respective clubs to decide what's included in the matchday programme, but I was disappointed to see it featured an interview giving Antony a platform to go on about how:
"[His goal against Newport County earlier in the cup] came despite everything I've been through, very difficult moments that have been tough not just for me individually but for my family as well. Everything we've been through and we're still going through hasn't been easy ... I keep going, as I mentioned, despite what people say without knowing my circumstances."
Insofar as it's official Manure communications, hardly what I'd call remaining neutral while the investigation(s) into Antony play out. But then again, he's on the pitch almost every week, which tells you everything you need to know.

This is just blatently untrue. Video technology was peddled as the panacea by the tv people and moaning managers who had just had a decision go against them. A large majority of fans jumped on board too. Trouble is - none of them had actually thought through how it would be implemented and how it would ruin the game.
A minority did think it through and tried to point out how it would have to be implemented and how it would ruin the game.
