Happened in reverse when Palace were the “team of the eighties” Except it turns out they weren’t, it was very short lived

In fairness we can’t keep getting better at the rate we have, we’ll be beating Real Madrid in the CL Final in a couple of years if it does. Almost as laughable as last season‘s “top ten” aim `

That team of the 80's label was hilarious to all at the time - no idea where it came from but presumably Vennables derived. Never anywhere near earning such a label. We are certainly deserving of the attention right now, an incredible time in our history.

Doesn't seem very long ago at all though that some on here were bemoaning the investment and performace of the academy, waste of time, no one coming through etc. The typical short sighed apprach is what holds all the other teams back it seems.

I’m sure I read somewhere that that year was the only year that goals scored took precedence over goal difference and so we stayed up. Fate or what?
It wasn’t the only season goals scored took precedence but I think we benefited from
It more than any other team over the period it was in place.

My personal favourite quote from the current plethora of articles about us under Bloom:

“And so, perhaps, the real legacy of Brighton’s rise is to illustrate what can be achieved with trust, courage, brains and a process: a tale of underdog triumph in the most rigged casino game of them all.”
