[Football] FA Cup Replays Scrapped

They honestly might as well just scrap the FA Cup. If a small club can't battle to a draw at home to a big club and then go to their place for a big payday, then what's the point in the early rounds of the competition? The whole 'magic of the Cup' has gone. Might as well just make it for the top 2 divisions only and start at the 3rd round.

Just said on the radio it's to help with fixture build up with teams playing in competitions like the champions league. WTF has the champions league got to do with the teams in the first round of the cup?

If they are going to scrap replays then do it from the extra preliminary round not the first round proper.

Scrapping the pointless mid season break makes sense though. But does somewhat contradict the reasoning for scrapping replays in the cup.

And I'm all for no mid week cup rounds.

Another example of the FA bending over to the Premier League and the Martin Keownism of whiney "Player Welfare". The poor Premier League players who at worst would have to play an extra 2 games if both their 3rd and 4th round games went to a reply as they already don't have to worry about replays from the 5th round onwards now!! And as has been pointed out, the denial of smaller Clubs getting a potential season saving big payday at a Premier League Club in a replay. Shame on the FA😡

If you take the financial aspect out of it the smaller clubs have more chance of beating a bigger club on the day if they can get to pens. Look at us v Charlton we probably would have stuffed them at home.

Easy way to compensate for this change, whilst also making for more giant killing and fun in general:

For the First Round (when the 48 L1 & L2 teams join) the 32 non-league qualifiers are all at home.

For the Third Round (when the 44 PL & Champ teams join) the 20 L1/L2/non-league teams are all at home.

Logistically a piece of piss to do: The lower teams are in a separate bowl that home teams are drawn from until it runs out.

All other rounds would be drawn as normal (with ensuing randomness). Only R1 and R3 are ‘rigged’ to give a decent home game and payday to tinpot sides like Charlton.

There’s already a precedent with league position giving home advantage in play-offs. This is just a reversal/twist on that.

Please write to your MP if you agree.

Fair point. But if you are a non-league player I think you'd prefer the chance of playing at Old Trafford in a replay than beating them at home on pens, personally.

Precisely.

Dunno what all the moaning about. I fear that some people think that all of society, its institutions, its associations, its narrative, its imperative and it's governance has all been set up with a single and unwavering purpose: to piss off the working man.

:lolol:

All fair points why the FA have to pander to arguably the six richest clubs in the PL is disgusting on all levels. If these Billy big bollocks clubs are complaining simple drop out of the competition.

Except: "The fourth and fifth rounds and the quarter-finals all will be exclusive of Premier League fixtures for the first time, and the fourth round will have an extended window from Friday to Wednesday to allow fans to watch consecutive days of Emirates FA Cup football."

It's framed as this, but no one really mentions the managers in the Champ and lower leagues that say they don't want replays and then field a whole team of reserves when they do.

No problem IMO it was the STUPID mid-week R5 which was ridiculous and IMO unfair. If they’re scrapping that then all good.
It will mean more ties going to pens which has just instantly added £10m to Pedro.
