Forest have lucked out on the fact other teams who should be doing better haven’t been - Villa, Spurs, United, City, Newcastle should all have done better this season…but have under achieved. Liverpool has capitalised on this, due to their squad being pretty much full and the ability to rotate and have talent on the bench. The other teams for reasons of injuries, squad depth, squad ability, managerial decisions have faltered and left the door open for teams such as Bournemouth, Forest, Fulham and probably ourselves to make a bid for top 6.

Of the remaining teams, only three have been to the final in the last 20 years (Villa, Palace and Man City). And only one of those has won the cup in that time.

And if City don't win it there will either be a new winner or a team that hasn't won it for years: Ipswich in '77 being the most recently other; the rest being from the 50s or earlier. I guess this makes City the overwhelming favourites.

When was there last a final where neither side had won the cup before? The unlikely answer is 1964/65: when Liverpool played Leeds.

Hello Donald Trump :)
Ipswich was in 78...and they aren't even in the competition, so the relevance is lost.
The unlikely answer is also wrong - it is 1970 when Chelsea played Leeds.

However - the rest of your post was probably correct ;-)

I wonder when the last FA Cup was that featured two teams who had never reached the final. I think the last one to feature a single team was Wigan Athletic's win.

Here

I believe the last final between two clubs who had never won it before was the Chelsea vs Leeds final in the 1969-70 season, before that it was the 64-65 final between Liverpool and Leeds (which Liverpool won obviously).

The 1913-14 final between Burnley and Liverpool was the last one between two clubs who had never played in an FA Cup Final before.

Noooooooooo! That would be far too stressful a Cup Final!! I want them OUT.
Brighton v "Any of the others apart from Palace or City " is my dream FA Cup Final this year.
Can you imagine the security arrangements for Palace especially as we travel.along the same rail line. I guess we would get the special trains though.

A Brighton v Palace final would also be tedious as all the build-up in the media would be referring to it as football’s most unlikely rivalry ad infinitum whilst ignoring the unlike lines of the geographically similar Norwich / Ipswich one.

A Brighton v Palace final is like withdrawing your life savings from your bank, remortgaging, taking out fifty pay-day loans and then betting all the funds that on red or black in a single roulette spin at the casino.
