Sorry if fixtures, couldn't see this anywhere.
Seems there's been a bit of controversy over this video.
This is the FA's video to promote "Kick homophobia out of football"
The premiere of the video was meant to be at Wembley yesterday, but was cancelled as the FA said they needed to rethink their strategies of dealing with the issue..
I don't know the ins and outs of it, just saw a feature on it on SSN.
What do you make of it? Effective shock tactics or shite waste of money?

I thought it was OK. But I do wonder, where on earth is the video going to be shown?

Is it really such an issue in football ? people can refer to my previous post on gay pride in brighton before they call me a homophobe, but i'm getting fed up with various parties trying to socially engineer football into an even more sanitised activity than it already is.

You could show that on TV I reckon, would have a good impact if not overplayed in the adds breaks on itv4 footy coverage.

Actor is very good and shows a real scary side to some people that are out and about.

I do kind of agree, but the fact that there is not one 'out' gay footballer does indicate some sort of problem with it's perception.

Having said that, no amount of videos from the FA are going to change anything until it starts becoming more acceptable in society as a whole.

Have not seen your gay pride post so if I am repeating your comments I apologise. My take is this, no probem with anyones sexuality and I have attended Pride on more than one occasion but I entirely agree with you.

FFS Leave my game alone, plus we as Albion would have to find a 'new identity'!

I see where you're coming from and agree to a point but you've got to start somewhere. If this campaign changes just a handfull of peoples behaviour at football (and hopefully in wider society too) then it'll have been worth it. That's how change in society starts, it's impossible to do it any other way. I like the video, it's not being worthy or overbearing and hits just the right note. Homophobia like racism will never go away completely but if you can use something as influential as football to challenge behaviour, especially that of the young and impressionable, then it's all good.

Oh for the days went people got to the pub for 12.30/13.00, drank for two hours, went to watch the match , shouted for their team and at the ref, then went home either happy, sad or indifferent and didnt have to worry about challenging sterotypes in society or tackling thorny issues over someones sexuality, ITS FOOTBALL FFS:US:

How does this video stop you from doing that?

It doesn't of course. It's interesting that a lot of the people who are vocally anti-Islam are also the same ones who start shouting 'pc gone mad' whenever someone tries to challenge sexism or homophobia and yet fail to see the irony.

Nothing to do with 'pc gaawn mad ', climb down off of your 'lets show how liberal and tolerant i am by attacking bushy's point of view'soapbox, I was merely questioning whether its enough of an issue within FOOTBALL to warrant video's and kick it out campaigns. I go to lots of matches and cannot ever remember hearing homophobic abuse , it's just an excuse for a few people to justify highly paid jobs/consulancies/ad campaigns.
