I noticed the race lasted 2 hours and 4 minutes

2 hours used to be the cut off point, has that rule changed?

Shame for Vettel, that extra 4 minutes (3/4 laps) has cost him in fuel

Two of my favourite tracks coming up in the next three weekends

Potential rain at Spa over the weekend, can’t wait!,

As Hamilton put it: “Trying to find that balance here is massively challenging. This morning we tried one way, this afternoon the other and the lap times were very similar – either quick in the middle and slow in the other two sectors, or the other way around. If it’s guaranteed to rain you want more downforce, but if it doesn’t rain you’re a sitting duck on the straights. So we have to be very careful and cautious in the choices we make. But this ain’t our first rodeo.”

Very wet track

If I've managed to point my MetOffice app to the correct Spa then that could well be the case this afternoon as well. F1 will definitely be on in preference to the 2.30 kick off.

And I know we were all at the game but how about some NSC love for George? Front row. In a WILLIAMS. Incredible. Simply has to replace Bottas next season at Merc.

Can’t put my finger on why but I really can’t warm to George. Absolutely no doubt about his quality and potential. I’ll be hanging my hat on Norris when Lewis retires.

A wet race will be awesome, I expect quite a few stoppages and shocks if it is.

I don’t know why he has not been confirmed yet? Possibly because they don’t want to demotivate Bottas as they need him to help Hamilton as much as he can?

With the talent of Russell along with Norris, the prospects for GB drivers in F1 is in very safe hands once Hamilton finally hangs up the helmet.

The conditions are APPALLING. Will this race even start on time?

Looking unsafe to this woos

What a leveller, the power of the car is almost irrelevant in these conditions. All about luck, big balls and driving skills imo

Russell can win this

From what Toto has been saying the decision has been made and it sounded like all parties were aware of it. I guess the question is whether they want to risk another Nico v Lewis style battle or if they want a clear number 1 and number 2 style team....

Whilst I understand erring on the side of safety, it’s hardly monsoon conditions out there, a safety car start is totally unnecessary IMO.

I always wonder why they don’t send the safety car round with the cars for 3 laps to clear some water and get a guide on conditions then do a standing start after that, rather than stealing the most dramatic part of the race (sometimes) from the fans attending and watching around the world.

We’ll see. The first flyer into Eau Rouge could well be “interesting”

Verstappen will be miles ahead by then from a rolling start.

I am pleased you are not in charge, the spray is going to be lethal as will the track be, even on full wets. They have even delayed the start. Drivers could die or get badly injured with your suggestion of how to start.

This is a track where it can be raining in some parts and not in others, which increases the risk

Start suspended again - surely the correct decision, it cannot be safe to race in these conditions.

I’ve worked out why I don’t like George Russell. He’ll settle for one more lap and then abandon the race so he gets second place as that would be classified as a half point race, the dick

What a shit attitude, much like when he caused an accident with Bottas and then got out of his car and thumped Bottas’ helmet

Who knew several billion pounds worth of cutting edge technology could be so easily thwarted by a bit of rain?

Looks like the race is about to be abandoned due to the clock having been started, what a crock of shit. This comment on BBC Sport covers it for me

Funny that they made rules to prevent another Canada 2011 when most people agree that Canada 2011 was one of the best races of this century.

Interesting update

Michael Masi is the most in-demand man in F1 today. He tells Ferrari that the 'hard' finish time limit of 6pm local time (17:00 BST) is not the case any more and the three-hour clock to get the race done has been 'stopped'.

They're doing everything they can. It still might not change anything.
