Extension of capacity at Falmer

Regarding some of the questions about this on the 'Ask The Club' forum, I believe the club HAS to state that there are no plans for expansion because otherewise this would give more ammunition to the NIMBYs.

I believe that Falmer WILL be extendable, as nearly all new grounds are, and that Insider is merely stating the 'official' line on the subject.

That's what I think, anyway.

As Titanic says: 'ssshhhh'. Let's get it first THEN we can announce plans to flatten Falmer village and build a 100,000 seater capacity stadium complete with business parks, hotels, houses and an airport.

Let me drive the bulldozer. PLEEEEEEEZE!

It's a bit premature to talk about expansion right now.

Whilst we all remember average gates above the Falmer capacity figure, in the grand scheme of things, it was short-lived.

Let's see how it goes first. I certainly wouldn't risk my money on making it bigger until the need was proven. Ask Darlington fans what they'd have preferred?

How about we agree to talk about it ten years down the line?

But there's no point talking about it before Falmer is even built :jester:

The only person at the Public Inquiry to raise the possibility that the Albion should be planning for a bigger stadium was Hazel McKay.

She is an objector, trying to make life difficult for the Club. Her argument was that a 22,000 capacity stadium wasn't large enough to accommodate football matches of national significance and since this proved that there was no national interest case for the development, it meant that the stadium shouldn't be permitted in the AONB. (See page 162 of the Collyer Report).

Theres plenty of useless space to the North of the site where we can expand if required.

You have to admit, that's very cunning.

If we ever get Falmer and then we fill up the 22,344 or so every week or so, do you really think we will

1) Get Planning Permission for an increase in size?

or do you think it is more likely that the Albion management (whoever they are) will

2) Just hike up the admission prices.

I do not think it really matters anyhow, unfortunately, or whatever, however the cookie crumbles.
