Explosion in the West Worthing/Durrington area

I heard it where I live, near Worthing Central station! I thought it was a loud firework

I went to rubber neck from the Ringmer Road end of Durrington High school. According to the plod on duty at the gate,the first attemted explosion to bring down the crane didn't work. The second was a success. The jib of the crane disapeared out of sight followed by the loudest crunching of metal you're likely to ever hear. The Police logic for not pre-warning people? It would attract sightseers! After the first botched attempt they went around the streets with a tanoy warning everyone of the next "bang". Plenty of Sightseers for the second one!.......
