So come on then. With all these MP's making weird and wonderful expenses claims, are we all whiter-than-white? Time for your expenses confessions....

Last year, both Mrs P and I had jobs that allowed us to claim for home broadband. So, we both did. Et voila, 100% profit on broadband.

Well it was within the rules

Its a valid thread, and shows the double standards. The difference is that [so far as I know] you were defrauding a private company rather than the taxpayer. So whilst I feel personally aggreived at the MPs shennanigans, yours is solely between you and your employer.

I've stopped on the way back from meetings for a nice coffee that I didn't really NEED. That's about the best I can think of. Pathetic, isn't it!

I have to sign off a load of peoples expenses and some people do take the mick. Its amazing just how many people realise when they are staying away with work that it is about time their suit needed dry cleaning !!!

I've once put these through on expenses:

Heilcopter ride up the Vegas strip
Entrance into strip joint
A bottle of champagne
A ladies bra

All were legit and paid for.

Where do you work? I think I want to work there!

I can't say I've ever taken the mick on expenses, in fact I often don't claim - especially for cheep things. However, I never really need to use my own money, as the company credit card is in my name.

I've got a fairly nice toolkit signed off and paid for.

I'm a software engineer - its just company policy that "engineers" can get tools paid for by the company.

That and theres a culture in the office of anyone with expense allowances making sure they're more than 5 miles away at lunch time, even if it involves driving to a shop/deli/pub 5 miles away.... down to Revenue limits on tax-free expenses.

I think in these days people tend to go the other way. When working at a different site than one you are contracted to, you have th eallowance of being able to claim lunch etc...I don't as I see it as just part of my working day. If I am in a hotel overnight then yes, there is the inconvenience of staying away on business "in your time" therefore its right and proper that the company should fund that.

I know of a situation where someone was based in an office in teh east end. He drove every day and didnt claim exs obviously, however the company opened another office a mile away and when he worked there, he claimed his full milage from home to there and back. That in my book is taking the piss.

In my old company, many staff used to claim milage every day because 'they could have worked from home'... unbelieveably, they got paid!

since the mp stuff has come out i have been looking closer at the expenses here, we are fairly laid back and easy going about it as long as people don't take the piss. one guy went to the 6th of october on business, he had a taxi door to door, flight ticket in hand and a company credit card for meals etc. the plonker got to heathrow with his bit of skirt in tow and on the spot bought a bloody ticket so she could go with him to 6th of october, then wined and dined her all week including spending a small fortune in clothes shops out there. bloody cheek.
