I was going to delete my post because I can’t be bothered replying to people continuously having a go for my original post or posting a silly light-heated cartoon of a flying pig. But you piled in too so why don’t you read the room? - It is not just me who has said it is extremely unlikely we can get a 5 goal difference on Thursday. I’ve quoted at least 4 or 5 other people who have also posted realistic or sensible responses to our chances on Thursday that no one has objected to..some even saying we shouldn’t even bother to try.

You can’t decide that a thread is only allowed to have posts that support the original premise of the thread or only one side is allowed to hold unrealistic or lighthearted views and that no one is allowed to counter them.

Anyway, dream on.

Here's a long-forgotten, but Albion, comeback, that at the time promised to change the course of the season.

The date is Saturday 23 February 1963, and here's the bottom of the Division III league table on the morning of the game.

Albion are in the 4 relegation places, but having played 4, 5 or 6 games more than all their rivals (this was the snowy winter of 1962/63) and looking nailed on for Division IV.

The Saturday fixture - away to Reading!

17 minutes Reading score 1-0

21 minutes Reading score again and look set for a big win 2-0

26 minutes Allan Jackson pulls one back for the Albion 2-1

HT 2-1

46 minutes Allan Jackson gets another 2-2

47 minutes Reading score again 3-2

52 minutes Roy Jennings (Albion's Lewis Dunk of the day) equalizes with a header from a corner 3-3

57 minutes Reading take the lead again, with the 4th goal in 12 minutes 4-3

82 minutes Steve Burtenshaw with another equalizer for the Albion 4-4

90 minutes Roy Jennings heads in from another corner 4-5 to the Albion.

Alas, although we won on the day, the teams around us gradually picked up points from their games in hand, and we were eventually duly relegated, along with Bradford, Halifax and Carlisle.

So Dunky, emulate Roy Jennings and get the 90th minute winner on Thursday, to make it 5-0 on the night please.

Scotland had lost every match they'd played at Twickenham since 1983. 18 consecutive defeats over 36 years. It looked like there could only be one outcome.

Full time: England 38-38 Scotland.

Details that don't augur so well for us on Thursday: Scotland had been 31-0 down but managed to stop the rot and get seven points on the board before half time, giving just a little bit of momentum, which we didn't in Rome; and the score actually went to England 31-38 Scotland with just three minutes to hold out but they let the incredible comeback win slip from their grasp right at the death.
