[Football] Everton Points Deduction.

What wages would Colwill be on at Chelsea, surely a bundle given his new contract? Out of our range you'd think?

It was amazing work by Tony Bloom and Paul Barber to sell Caicedo for £115m to Chelsea.
The more you look at that deal and the timing of it makes you realise how incredible it was.

It's not just the income that has been received, it has also put us miles on the correct side of FFP.

(that's without taking into account the £100m+ that they've pocketed).

Now get Evan Ferguson back in the side and scoring goals, pocket another £100m+, and then unleash 18 yr old Mark O'Mahony on the Premier League.

Could impact our business model as there will be less clubs willing to spend big money on our stars. But then could mean us keeping them longer and getting more stability in the squad.

When some were praising 'astute Boehly' for the 7 year contracts ruse, I think @El Presidente pointed out that in the medium/long term it would actually come back to severely restrict them in FFP. The only way they can escape the noose is to repeatedly sell homegrown players for huge fees.
You didn't ever need to be a Financial genius to realise from the outset, that Boehly's plan didn't make sense long term.

The whole concept, that selling one player for £50m means that you can buy five £50m players - if you spread their purchase cost over 5 years, only balances IF a) you have another HGP to sell for £50m every year, and b) you don't actually want to buy any more players in any of the next four seasons!

When they get to the summer of 2027 and the incumbent new manager wants to shape his squad, he'll find that all that summers budget was spent, 4 years in the past.

The latter feels more important to me.

We want to be successful, and if we are then big clubs will want our players. But the players will have to understand that they only go if the money and timing are right.

Chelsea will also come unstuck if any of the big ticket buys flop and they have to sell for a big loss, each time substantially adding to their accounts loss. At which time 7 or 8 year contracts will be an irrelevance, in fact worsening the loss as they'd deferred the day of judgment.

Because of FFP they can't afford to sell, instead having to loan out players and meeting the lion's share of the ongoing wages.

Before and with Boehly, Chelsea already have a history of expensive lemons e.g. Lukaku, Kepa, Morata, Werner, Pulisic and more to come.

Think we need an ITV Drama to get things going.

I assume they would have to cash in all the amortisation of Caicedo's fee , so selling cheap is of no value to them.
Suppose this depends on the punishment they receive. Get a "Rangers" style drop to league 2 and it might be worthwhile to cash in on player sales and take the accounting FFP hit in 1 year but have the opportunity to grow with cash in the bank. I don't know what a subsequent FFP breach would warrant penalty wise but assume some dullard will

Edit: should say that this will never happen to a big 6 teams as the premier league don't want to damage the golden egg laying cash cow (or something like that)

Don’t think so. Hadn’t played for them so won’t be huge even by their standards…

Yep - their accounts would take a massive hit - hence another issue with expensive signings on very long contracts. You’re stuffed if the player does’t work out. Boehly’s approach is so flawed.

I don't know how true it is, but I recall there being a report that Boehly's approach, was to offer longer contracts, with lower wages as a trade-off.

Ballsy statement…….

I find it weird UEFA would not only have a time limit, but for it to be so short.

Question.
Chelsea could win the EFL Cup this season but then have it taken away for breaking FFP. Man City won everything last season but also could have it all taken away.
As a club (NOT Brighton but any club), would you be supportive of your chairman spending £1 billion if it meant silverware, a victory parade but hatred from every other club? You'll have you day, celebrate at Wembley and in Europe. For 6 months life would be good.
Then the FA, FIFA & UEFA take it all away, fine you and send you down a league. At that point you could just swop teams, become a red across town even.

All fans can do is trust that their owners are playing within the rules. I would like to think that I would accept any punishments if the club are found to have cheated without any whataboutary or whining about how it's not the fans fault (it's not, but tough).
