Supper when it is at home; dinner when you go out.

On the subject of northerners: I have a couple of friends from Newcastle and they not only call dinner/supper "tea", but they also call lunch "dinner".

Try living up north, it's a bit confusing.
Them: "What do you want to do for dinner?"
Me: "I dunno, why are you asking me now it's only 1pm I haven't even thought about lunch yet."
Them: "Exactly we're just about to get some".

Or, Them: "Do you want a barm cake"
Me: "I dunno what that is, but it sounds tasty, yeah"
*gets given barm cake*
Me: "Erm, thanks for a bread roll..."

Anyway I have breakfast (well actually I usually skip it), lunch and then dinner in the evening. If I'm still hungry I might have some supper before going to bed.

In Sheffield they call bread rolls bread cakes. For goodness sake, don't they have schools up there?
