I don't even think Connolly's crap, by the way. He's clearly got ability, far far more than any of the dozens of abysmal youth team "strikers" we've produced in the past, but his attitude has never matched. I remain convinced there's a player in there: maybe not a Premier League player, but I think he'll have a career somewhere above League One if- IF- he can steer clear of WAGs, Love Islanders and the bars of West Street.
League One it is then

Connolly is/was better than over 90% of all Albion strikers - ever.

In the unlikely event of us signing Franco Baresi 20 years ago, he wouldn't even be a top 10 all time Albion centre back. :)
True that.

His mum is English
Anyone born in Ireland can apply for a British passport under the Good Friday agreement. Are English parents actually needed to play to England if you’re Irish?

The dull part of the south coast
Presumably he borrowed the idea from the England cricket and rugby teams :)
Yep! In rugby you had the ‘Kilted Kiwis’ - those not quite good enough for the All Blacks. Tony ‘I’m going to make the West Indies grovel’ Greig, that wonderful England cricket captain from somewhere in South Africa, whose tremendous boast was answered with a tremendous 5-0 test series defeat by said West Indies.

And how can we forget dear Zola Budd in athletics. That barefooted waif from South Africa who was acclaimed as one of the world’s best middle distance runners. Oh, but wait, was suddenly given British citizenship just in time for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

So just a few examples of the ‘Granny Gate’ selection club. Does that mean our own Alexis Mac Allister can now play for Northern Ireland, or even Scotland?

Oi! - don't include Sussex in that! Not only has our wonderful county provided England with Matt Prior, plus Dexter and Grieg, but also one of England's greatest opening bats, Ranjitsinhji. The pride of Sussex, Fry and Ranjitsinhji, opening for England must have been the apogee of English cricket.....

.....despite some of CB's ..ermm .. peculiar quirks......

If we'd signed Baresi 20 years ago, he'd have been 42 years old and six years into retirement.

Had we played him up top he'd have still been better than Leon 'not the' Best.

My understanding is that you need to be born in Northern Ireland - and if you are, you can have a British or Irish passport (or both).
You are correct.

EVAN FERGUSON HAS not suffered any ligament damage in his knee with The42 learning that scans showed up bruising of the bone in the affected area.

Encouragingly, there has also been no structural damage to the 18-year-old’s knee and it now remains a possibility he will return to Premier League action in time to be available for Ireland’s opening Euro 2024 qualifier with France next month.

It is understood that the nature of the tackle, and delicacy surrounding the area affected, means Brighton are not prepared to rush Ferguson back as they place an emphasis on caution with the player, and while the club expect him to only miss a short period no timeline has been mapped out.

That's extremely encouraging news.

So, not available until March then - and that's supposed to be good news?
