It would have been a perfectly valid strategy. If he'd come back to us next season having scored 30 goals in League1, he and we would be in a very good place. As it happens, keeping him here and playing him has also worked out very beneficially. So, everybody happy then, eh? No complaints I hope.
Loans are what the club does a lot of but we have moved on to buying young talent who are pretty much the real deal so loaning out is not applicable for them. Yes we got him as a raw 16 year old but it was pretty clear he was special, not just because of his football and physical development but because his head is in the right place and I think it is the latter that is key in his case.

Locadia, Andone, Undav.*

*I actually thought he played well, today, but...League 2 defence.
It is a league 2 defence but they played exceptionally well first half. I thought Undav looked quite sharp up front, good link up play and some good tackling back.

Even with his ability I think there's an argument that had he come up through the ranks during the low point of Hughton's tenure or in potter's winless streak he'd have benefited from a loan spell at a top championship club for his development. In recent seasons there would have been incredible pressure for him to deliver because team goal contributions were so poor.

A lot has been said of RDZ's team performances but the impact he has made on individual players performances has been nothing short of a miracle.

Someone on Red Cafe thinks we may be tempted by a swap deal for Maguire
It's the only way we can stop Maguire playing for England.

Contract is until 2026, signed in October last year.
Getting players to want to stay and play at this club is yet another thing we fans no longer need to worry about all the while the club is run as it is.

My guess is that Ferguson continues to improve and the club gives him another improved deal just before the January transfer window.

If Ferguson keeps improving & gets 20 goals next season , he’ll be worth £50m at least .
He is ours for a while. At least 2 seasons I’d think. Bloom would only take a king’s ransom and the buying clubs would need to see regular goal scoring at the highest level consistently over a few years for a player that young. By the time he is 22/23 we’re going to find is hard to keep him. Sadly, we’re going to find even it harder to replace him.

A LOT has happened since then though - at that point he had only played a couple of minutes in the PL (in the spring). Really think he'll get a new contract, adding a year or two and giving him a wage that reflects his new status before next season.
100%. That was his move from a kids contract to a ‘promising adult’ contract. ’Real deal’ contract sometime soon I would think. Dread to think what his value is given the premium on strikers - he’s getting raved about across the board now.

There was a time when Dunky was given a new contract every summer, obviously on improved terms. Don’t see why that wouldn’t apply to Fergy as well. In fact I would be very surprised if this wasn’t happening already but maybe we haven’t heard about it, which would be odd.
