The shambles that is the Democratic Republic of Congo needs attention drawn to it.

Why?

Have we not got enough problems in this country to worry about for us to be caring about somewhere I expect the vast majority of people on this board couldn't even point out on a map?

It is confusing when there are 2 African nations called Congo. The Republic of Congo with Brazzaville as the capital has a southerly border with the Democratic Republic of Congo whose capital city , Kinshasa , lies on the opposite side of the River Congo. One is a former French colony and the other Belgian.

You may be right. I'm interested in the place because the young Miss Bracknell works there.

Ed: can you advise whether the Democratic Republic of Congo is more or less democratic than the Republic of Congo? I'm guessing less, seeing as how countries with the word Democratic in their name do seem to have a tendency to be the least democratic nations on the planet (Democratic People's Republic of Korea, for example).
