Agreed. It’s always been rubbish musically but acceptable as slightly camp, good clean fun. Now it’s become an awkward mess of moany soft porn and moany political posturing.

One thing I can't get my head round is that he clearly watched it all.
? - Croatia won the public vote by 14, and 111 more than Switzerland.
It didn't cause me an issue as such but it did occur to me what some eastern European countries ( and even southern ones ) would think of it. Basically it was a shit song, sung by a weak singer and with dancing/effects designed to draw your attention away from those points. We CAN do great Pop / Eurovision as Sam Ryder proved - let's stop the sexual side and effects and go back to proper decent songs and singing - like France did. Or go full Eurovision like Croatia - daft, over the top, slightly camp and gets the audience involved. Oh - and the rather nice blonde lady presenting should do it every year !

Anyone who doesn’t realise Eurovision is just one big unofficial Pride event is a little naive, it’s just a bit of fun and not really anything to get your leather chaps in a twist about.

It's been replete with eye-bogging flesh for years. I'm not sure it was ever good clean fun. Till recently, bad smutty tedium would have been my verdict. I think it's much better now with fewer finalists and swifter voting.

I was thinking that perhaps if there were less people in the world telling others how they should vote or how they should feel afterwards there might be less people voting the polar opposite? Just a thought

It’s never been any different, why complain about it now? I personally feel that Britain’s entry for this year lacked the essential humour that goes along with camp, and inadvertently turned into something quite grubby.
We’re an odd bunch us in the UK and Ireland, we seem incapable of just joining in, and instead want to push everything to extremes. The British entry was just a bunch of guys touching each other’s cocks, nothing wrong with it among consenting adults but not in the spirit of playful camp that the rest of Europe seems happy to work within.
The Irish entry was again a BDSM fever dream that would resonate with catholic school graduates and the Catholic Church, but only a select few outside of it. The reason we can’t catch a break at Eurovision is that we always want to play our own game, instead of joining in with everyone else’s. Reminds me of something political that happened a few years ago where we publicly showed our self-hatred to the world. We just don’t understand.

You can cyclically argue that for everything and anything but if you believe it was like that in the 60s,70s,80s etc in comparison to todays hysterics and posturing then I can only think you were born yesterday. It is nothing like it once was.

Are we still talking about the political side of it? It’s exactly as it always was.
And it’s precisely because I wasn’t born yesterday that I can remember the politics of decades ago. The power blocs and who gives their votes to who may have altered over the years as political alliances have waxed and waned, but it’s precisely the same show.
Admittedly I’m increasingly feeling that Jean-Paul Gaultier and Antoine de Caunes should provide the commentary, but to me it’s just an evolution of what was already there.
