How about Belgium ? Lots of nice cities to visit and excellent beers, as a bonus, you can still smoke in most bars too. Just get on the Eurostar and you are away !

Belgium's a decent balance between quality of football/stadia and night out on the beer. Liège and Club Bruges would be my tips - Liège has the best atmosphere but Bruges is a nicer place.

Can't see I'd recommend too many Eastern Bloc leagues - stick with Western Europe unless you're not fussy about watching football not much better than the English Conference.

A ground I'd really like to go to is Dortmund's.
Think there is a poster on here who went there recently.

This, Bruges is my favourite place I've been to on the continent.

One place I've always wanted to see a match is Athletic Bilbao - atmosphere supposed to best in Spain.

Here a few further recommendations:

Austria - Rapid Vienna or Sturm Graz. Don't bother with anywhere else.

France - Lille is a fine city, LOSC are a great club but shite Withdeanesque stadium. Best beer culture in France but not cheap for a night out. Lyon & Marseille are probably the best bets although Montpellier & Toulouse are lovely cities (mediocre football teams, though).

This year will be the sixth lads weekend for a collection of STHs.

Year One: Chamois Niort v Metz, but we were staying with a mate who had holiday appartments. Near to Cognac if you like that a tour of the distilleries is interesting. Niort is a bit of a dump.

Year two: Gent v Mons. Gent is an interesting Flemish town with loads of history and, of course, an amazing selection of beers.

Year three: Valencia v Sporting Gijon; the best game seen on these trips. Valencia, like most Spanish cities is great for night life, still very mild in October, easy to get about.

Year four: Sporting Lisbon v someone in the Portuguese Cup. Lisbon, much like Valencia, loads of history, plenty to see, old town is buzzing on Saturday evenings right up until 4am (at which stage I made my excuses after too many mojitos washed down with sambuca chasers). Game was crap.

Last year: Sparta Prague v Liberec. Thought the atmosphere would be great at the game, but it wasn't, only about 6000 in the ground for 1st v 3rd (I think) of the Czech Republic top flight, even allowing for it being on tv this was poor. Tickets were about £7. Great night life, great beer, cheap food and Dave in Prague's nightclub (thanks for the chilli vodka, Dave). Best for nightlife, worst for football.

Marseille is good. You will get to see drogba and there are plenty of places to go out. ALthough is quite expensive

Honestly can say Dresden was the best of the trips I have done over recent years. It is a little intimidating - but in a good way - and a beautiful stunning city.

A mate told me that they play the 'Gladiator' theme tune before the game which I thought was a bit naff.....but once you are in the stadium it sounds fantastic. Massive atmosphere - espcially when they play Rot Weiss or Hansa Rostock, great beer kellers - real ones rather than the Munich tourist hotspots. A stupidly cheap city as well.

Cannot recommend it highly enough!
