We don't sing, we don't intimidate, we don't generate a Calderon atmosphere.

Why?

Because we never have done.
Generationally we never have done.

So why suggest it's a problem now?

There is no problem with us, we are doing what we've always done.

The current problems stem solely from the Directors box, the dug out and the changing room.

rubbish , the goldstone used to go right off in the heady days of the early 80's , i was there , i remember it , the hardcore 6000 who endured the gillingham and falmer years deserve better than to be looked down at by mums with kids with sensitive ears and grannies and old farts who can't abide noise .....there is no reason why we can't generate a racket other than it is generally frowned upon by the modern supporter and admin.

Shouldn’t we be talking about something many have wished for for a few years now…mid table mediocrity. Like it or not the pressure has been off the players for a couple of weeks now..and it shows in the performances.

Results like we are getting is what mid table teams do later in the season.

Of course some will be putting on their negative hats and start talking about “always one team in freefall that ends up in the bottom three”. We have some stiff competition on that front though, can we out freefall Brentford or Leeds?

Quite.

Leeds generate atmosphere and they're getting dicked regularly, as well as having spent the best part of 20 years in the Championship.

People put far too much importance on the crowd, as if somehow it's our fault we can't defend or score at the moment.

Wasn’t really a flat few months at all, all our late goals in away games were brilliant, as was the atmosphere at most of them It’s home games that have been shite.

Chelsea has been the only high point, at home, for quite some time.

As Justice has just written on the No Passion thread.

All those late draws have done is paper over the cracks of our 5th relegation campaign, with very little entertainment given to the 27,000 season ticket holders.

Saved me having to write the same.
It’s nonsense to equate fan frenzy in the stands with performance on the pitch.

Having said that, the atmosphere at the Amex is shit.

Yep. I look forward to away games far more than home games. Ironically, the atmosphere at away games has got better if anything

No you don't.

You remember the big games, the big moments, the big crowds, just like the rest of us that were there.

What we don't remember is all the shite in between - why would we.

Why would we remember the nothing games from 40+ years ago?

We are, because we always have been, a reactive fsnbase, saying anything else is wrong.

Some of Brighton’s best results have been in front of small or no crowds during covid . Sometimes I think a big loud crowd puts players under more pressure & ends up being counter productive . Leeds yesterday was a good example .

Definitely.

We couldn't have generated more than 10 minutes of noise yesterday.
Even by our piss poor standards we were as appalling as the team.

Which is exactly what we do, despite what the likes of sydney thinks he remembers.

I've had you all wrong this season - I've been taking you seriously.
All this love for GPott and all things GPott only makes sense now I finally see the parody.

Beat Watford and you throw down the oh so needy 'how much are you enjoying this season?' thread.
Get stuck into all the Europe - can we? threads.
Turn on anyone who says 'hang on a minute'.

Now that glorious 72 hours of Potter Greatness has been put to bed.
Your championing midtable mediocrity despite no wins in the rear view mirror, and no sign of any on the horizon.

This midtable mediocrity is only looking one way, down to our natural position !16th) and despite NOBODY seriously saying we'll end up in the bottom 3, that's what posters are being accused of.

Brilliant effort.

Couple weeks back was enjoying reading discussion of some very outside chance of Euro places. Now....

.... is anyone slightly concerned about sliding into a relegation battle?

Our games in March look challenging to say the least

we have got enough points already. Even you the doom merchant can see that

It’s funny - football fans are never happy. When we got promoted mates of mine who support clubs like Blackburn, Sunderland warned this would happen. When you go up and struggle, it’s demoralising. When you have some success and start to move into 10th-12th you’re there because you’re inconsistent rather than just consistently bad or consistently decent. Then go break into top half and you’re probably not competitive against the big 4 or so , and then the ‘nearly there’ team.

Or Leicester who in the last 5 years have won the Premier League , FA Cup, twice in CL, Europa League yet you’d think they were Norwich.

So you're talking about what, parts of 5 seasons, in total?

I'm talking about the surrounding 40+ seasons, in my time alone.

Who'd have thunk waiting till AFTER Burnley and Villa + to a lesser extent Utd, was the way to go.

I have got a bit of a sense of the players being a bit ‘beach minded’ the last few games. Do wonder if the overwhelming (club) mentality is still one of ‘stay up’ at the moment, and with that pretty much done there’s been a drop-off in effort/desire (coupled with a few key players maybe thinking they’ll be off in the summer and not wanting to bust a gut as a result). Even a marginal drop-off at this level will have an impact on performances and results.

I think we'll pick up a further 3-6 points from here (no more though - we are shit at the moment and will be relying on stumbling across a team that are shittier than us to collect these points) which should be enough but forget Europe, forget top 10 - we're returning to our normal position in the table!!
